23 JULY: CITY FALL TO NARROW DEFEAT AT BATH CITY
City put on an encouraging performance tonight to push Blue Square Bet Premier Bath City all the way, just falling to a single goal from new signing Scott Murray. City were delighted to debut our new away kit sporting our new shirt sponsors Olbas and short sponsors Barnwood Builders. More details to follow around the formal launch at our home game against Newport, but in the mean time thanks to Olbas and Barnwood Builders for their support
20 JULY: MANAGER MEHEW COMMITS FOR THE LONG TERM
Gloucester
City are pleased to announce that manager Dave Mehew has signed
a two year contract with the club, having previously worked on a
non-contract basis.
Gloucester City Chairman Nigel Hughes said “we are delighted that Dave Mehew has accepted our offer of a 2 year contract. All on the Executive have a great deal of respect for the hard work and commitment shown by Dave since he arrived, and especially since he stepped up from Assistant Manager over 2 seasons ago to replace Tim Harris. Since then Dave has continued to grow in stature and develop his own style of management. On his appointment he consolidated the squad and against all odds won promotion to the Blue Square North, the highest playing level in the Clubs 125 year history. In maintaining the Clubs status at this level last season on one of the lowest budgets in the league then Dave has continued to enhance his reputation”.
Hughes continued; “the contract is both recognition of his sterling work since taking over as Manager, but even more importantly to recognise that we believe he is the man to take the club forward for the future. We are delighted that he has committed to the club in this fashion”.
For his part, Mehew said; “we briefly discussed the idea of a contract at the end of last season, and agreed in principle then on the way forward. I am delighted to sign a two year deal, and in the confidence the club are showing in me. We all know the pressures of being away from our own home, but I have an excellent relationship with those running the club, and we all want the same things - to continue the development of the last 4 years, to push the club further up the Conference, and to move back to Gloucester as a successful outfit on and off the field.
18 JULY: FANTASTIC SUPPORT FROM THE PREMIER LEAGUE
The Premier League today announced a solidarity package with The Football Conference worth £6m over the next three seasons.
Following the £1m payment made to the Football Conference in 2009/10 the Premier League has decided to provide funding for seasons 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13
that will support all Football Conference clubs. The funding will be split into general payments made to all 68 Conference clubs and a separate club development fund which any Conference club can apply to for specific projects.
The funding will be structured in the following way:
- £1.2m per season provided as funds to support all Football Conference clubs;
- £800,000 per season committed to a new club development fund to which all Conference clubs can apply;
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said:
“The Premier League
and our member clubs recognise the importance of the continued health of football outside the Football League and it is with this in mind that we have made this commitment to the Football Conference.“In particular, we are extremely pleased to be working with the Football Conference to establish a new club development fund that will allow Conference clubs, all extremely important within their local communities, to invest more funds into local youth development and good cause initiatives.”
Football Conference Chairman, Brian Lee, said:
“This is a further wonderful gesture of friendship from the Premier League towards The Football Conference. The solidarity commitment for three years is most welcome whilst the new funding will allow our Clubs to express themselves in a tangible form for the benefit of their communities. We accept the challenge with gratitude.”
3 JULY: COLIN GARDNER

19 JUNE: CLARIFICATION ON POSITION OF MARC RICHARDS
Following some concern on the City Open Forum, Gloucester City would like to confirm that Marc Richards signed a new contract during last season which also covers season 2010-11. Marc will report back for pre-season training with all the other players on 1 July.
15 JUNE: PARRINELLO JOINS TIGERS
Gloucester City are pleased to announce the signing of 20 year-old Tom Parrinello from Weston Super Mare. The left sided former Bristol Rovers youngster broke into the Pirates Reserve side at just 16 years of age, and went on to make one FA Cup appearance for the first team before going to Weston, initially on loan and then in a permanent move. He was both supporters and managers player of the year two seasons ago, and players-player of the year last term, and Manager Dave Mehew is delighted to get his man; “Tom is a left sided player who I will use as an attacking option, with Ryan O’Hara providing the balance on the right. He is a skilful player who can also play at left fullback, so can provide cover there too”.
Mehew continued that he was now close to completing his squad for the new season “I would hope to bring in one, maybe two players, but I am delighted with what we have achieved on a tight budget and go towards the season with confidence”
14 JUNE: MOLYNEAUX LEAVES FOR PASTURES NEW
Defender Lee Molyneaux has left Gloucester City as he is about to move out of the area. Manager Dave Mehew said; “Moly is one I would have offered a deal to, but he is about to move back down to Hampshire which obviously makes that impossible, so we wish him every success for the future. It obviously frees up a bit of money for me to look at some of the options open to me and we will be assessing those options in the coming days and weeks.
11 JUNE: SMITH LEAVES BUT 3 COMMIT FOR LONG TERM
Captain Tom
Webb, and youngsters Jack Harris
and Tom Hamblin have all signed new two year contracts with G
loucester
City. Tom Webb will shortly pass the all-time appearance record
for the club, and has been catching the eye with his
performances in the
BlueSquare
North. Manager Dave
Mehew
said “Tom is a
fabulous servant to the
club and we are delighted to tie him up for this season and next
– his performances have been attracting higher-league attention,
and if he continues to improve next year then that will
continue, so to have him on a long contract is great news.
In Harris and
Hamblin
City have a talented pair of youngsters who have both made a big
impact since stepping up to the club, and manager Dave
Mehew
was delighted
to have secured their services; “ Tom and
Jack have been immense for me since joining the club, and I am
delighted to have them here for another
two years. It is not usual for City to offer two year contracts
to players, but we have had enquiries about these two, and they
are getting noticed and wanted to secure them for the long term.
I think it shows a clear statement of intent by the club to
build on what we have
and to continue to improve on the field.
Meanwhile
winger Lee Smith has left Gloucester Cit
y.
Mehew
said; “I made Lee a good offer for the coming season, but he has
offers from higher-league clubs and decided to move on, so we
will shake hands and part company, we wish him well for the future,
and thank him for all his efforts for the club in his two spells
here. He has played a big part in the clubs recent success and
we part on good terms” .

JUNE: ONE IN AND TWO RE-SIGN AS SQUAD TAK
ES
SHAPE
Weston Super Mare right back or midfielder Mike Green has joined Gloucester City after agreeing terms with Manager Dave Mehew. Green spent 7 years as a Schoolboy at Southampton, and then a further two years at the club on professional forms before his release brought a move to Forest Green Rovers. After two years at Forest Green he had a short spell at Cinderford Town , followed by two seasons with Bath City. That was followed by a brief spell at Clevedon Town before his move to Weston in December 2007.
Mehew said “I am delighted to get Mike, he is a quality player at this level, and as well as playing regularly at right back he has played at this level in midfield as well, which is important with a small squad. I have been after him for some time and am please that this has finally come to fruition. Mike is a Gloucester lad, living 10 minutes from the city centre, and was a fan on the terraces in the Leroy Rosenior era. He has told me that he always thought he would play for his home town club one day, and that day has come so he needs to work hard and grab his chance.

In addition to
the signature of Green the club can also announce that Ryan
O’Hara and James Palmer have agreed terms with the club for the
coming season.
Mehew
said “Ryan made an immediate impact when he signed, and can play
down either flank. His performances tailed off a little towards
the end of the season,
but I have no concerns – we have h
ad
a long chat and its for him to step
up to the plate now and show how
good he is – he has the ability, and the experience (having
played league football in Scotland, and in Ryan I really believe
we have someone who can come to the fore on the excellent
Whaddon
Road pitch. James Palmer has bags of quality, but people forget
just how young he is. But now is the time for him to kick on and
show that he can be a major contributor at this level”.
2 JUNE: STRIKE DUO SIGN UP FOR ANOTHER YEAR
City striker Mike Symons and Will
Morford
have both agreed deals for the coming season. Manager Dave
Mehew
was delighted to sign th
e pair; “they are quality players and
this has been shown by the amount
of interest both have been
getting from other clubs – with several Conference clubs chasing
the signature of Mike Symons in recent weeks, so it’s a major
boost to have them committed for the coming season”.
y made good progress in shedding some of the excess
weight that he was carrying last term which will help to reach
his potential as a quality player at this level and higher. I
have every confidence that they can find their goalscoring
form – the pitch at Cheltenham will suit them, and in the later
stages of the season they played very well together – especially
in the wins at Blyth and Telford, and the home draw against
Southport. They need to build on that and show much more
consistency in hitting the back of the net next year, I have
every confidence that they will do exactly that.
1 JUNE: ADMISSION AND SEASON TICKET PRICES AGREED
Gloucester City Football Club has announced admission and season ticket prices for next season, as they prepare once again for a campaign in the Blue Square Bet Northern Division. The club will continue with its policy of no surcharge for sitting in the stand, with a flat price for all spectators of £12 with £6 for concessions. Children under 10 will continue to be admitted free.
Chairman Nigel Hughes says, “We are sorry that prices have had to be raised, but the Executive Committee has worked hard to find a competitive budget to build on the excellent platform the manager has established. It has also to be acknowledged that is very much more expensive in the Conference than in the Southern League. The move to Cheltenham maintains our status, will hopefully make it cheaper and easier for fans to get to games, and provides a superb arena, but match day costs will be much higher because we will be playing at a football league stadium. We are growing our commercial activity, with new Commercial manager Robin Eaves already making an impact, but if we don’t look to set prices to help balance the books, then the only options available would involve putting the club’s future in jeopardy through running up debts or taking a step down to a lower level of football. Clearly neither of those options is acceptable – the former has been seen to fail in so many clubs this year, and the latter is quite the opposite to the direction of travel we intend for this club.”
In order to soften the increase for fans the club has made the rise for season tickets smaller, and have also for the first time introduced the facility to pay for the season ticket in three equal instalments should people wish. Club spokesman Mike Dunstan said, “We have some excellent deals on season tickets, including some exceptional family ticket deals. We have also sought to widen the appeal with the instalment scheme for those who wish to use it. Additionally, there will be a prize draw so all those applying for season tickets are eligible.

31 MAY: TWO SIGN, ONE
DEPARTS

Jack Pitcher has turned down a new contract at Gloucester City, and will look to ply his trade elsewhere next season. Manager Dave Mehew said “Jack and I have spoken at length, and I was keen to keep him at the club, but he feels he needs a fresh start to rebuild his confidence. He is really looking to wake up on a Saturday morning and know that he is in the starting line-up more often than not, and unfortunately I cannot give him that guarantee, so have reluctantly accepted his decision. He has played an important part in the resurgence of this club, being Tim Harris’ first big-name signing when he was manager that made a statement of intent that we were looking to progress. So whilst sad to see him go, we have parted on good terms and with no hard feelings, all at the club wish him well for the future”.
“I am delighted to announce that we have agreed terms with Matt Rose and Neil Mustoe for next season. Both come with huge experience and are great around the dressing room, so its great that they are committed for another season. Neil Mustoe will be registered as a player but will be expanding his coaching role. Indeed, I have decided to ask Neil to lead the majority of the pre-season training. This would be my fifth pre-season with the players, and sometimes you need to freshen things up by putting a new voice in their and trying new things. Neil will also take a fuller role during the season freeing me up from Tuesday training when I need to go and watch matches”.
Mehew continued; “I am continuing to talk to the rest of the squad, and to players that I would like to join and improve our squad. I am close to a deal for a right back/midfielder who would come with significant experience and really bring something extra to the squad”.
CITY SIGN BRACE OF KEEPERS
Gloucester City are pleased to announce that they have agreed deals for the coming season with former City favourite Kevin Sawyer, who will once again be City's number one next season following a year at Blue Square South Weston Super Mare. Sawyer made a big impact for City in his first spell, culminating in a great performance against Farnborough in their 1-0 playoff win to secure promotion.
Backing up Kevin will be Ben Lewis, who has also
agreed terms for next year. Lewis has already played on league
game for the club - the defeat against Harrogate Town, and was
in goal for their victory over Cheltenham Town in the
Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup.
Manager Dave Mehew said "I am delighted to get Kevin back at the club, and I am sure he will do a massive job for us. He has not had a great time of it in the year he has been away, and I know that he will be hungry to put the record straight. The added advantage is that he will settle back in with the players very quickly and will know the way we play from the start. I Ben we have someone who will train every week with the club, and be a very able understudy to Kevin. Having had Mike Green lined up last season, but not able to announce the signing i am sure the supporters will be pleased to have an early announcement this time around! I continue to talk to the rest of the squad and would expect to make further announcements in the coming week.
CITY TAKE ON LAND LORDS IN PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY
Gloucester City will play Cheltenham Town at The Abbey Business Stadium, Whaddon Road on Saturday 17 July as part of their pre-season preparations.
Further details of their pre-season schedule will be announced shortly.
3 MAY : CITY APPOINT ROBIN EAVES TO COMMERCIAL ROLE
Gloucester City are pleased to
announce the appointment of Robin E
aves
as the clubs Commercial Manager.
Mr Eaves has a wealth of experience in, having held the role of Commercial Manager at both Forest Green Rovers and Telford United, and will start work immediately as the club prepares for next season, and a move to Whaddon Road.
Chairman Nigel Hughes said “we are delighted to have Robin on board, he brings a wealth of experience both of working at this level, but also in this area from his time at Forest Green. The move to Cheltenham opens up many additional sponsorship opportunities for the club, and as we look to grow and improve as a club a man of Robin’s calibre is going to be essential to help us generate the finances required to as we look to move both up the leagues and back into our new stadium in Gloucester in a safe and sustainable fashion. I hope that the businesses of Gloucester will recognise the progress the club has made, and will get right behind us as we look to build on recent success”
Robin Eaves meanwhile commented; “I am delighted to be joining Gloucester City at this exciting stage with the groundshare at Cheltenham Town next season offering so many more possiblities for corporate hospitality. My contact details are on the Commercial Pages and hopefully companies will buy into our future”

29 MARCH : PRESS RELEASE RE GROUND SHARE
Gloucester City have reached an agreement with Cheltenham Town to play at their Abbey Business Stadium for the next two seasons. are currently without a permanent ground having lost their Meadow Park home to flood damage in 2007 and have been playing at Cirencester Town’s Corinium Stadium this season.
However, Cirencester’s ground does not meet the standards required by the BlueSquare League meaning that Gloucester have been forced to either upgrade the Corinium Stadium or search for an alternative venue until a permanent return to the city can be secured.
The new arrangement will begin at the start of the 2010-11 season with Gloucester likely to play at least one pre-season friendly at the ground before the start of the new campaign.
Gloucester will pay Cheltenham Town an annual rent to play matches at the Abbey Business Stadium, although under Football League rules all Cheltenham Town matches will take priority in fixture scheduling.
Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker said: “I am delighted that we have reached agreement with Gloucester City and look forward to working with them over the next two years.
“The agreement heralds a new era of co-operation between the clubs working together for mutual benefit.”
Gloucester City spokesman Mike Dunstan added: “We are very pleased to have completed this deal and would like to thank Cheltenham Town for all their help in making it happen.
“We now look forward to working with Cheltenham Town to make the ground share successful for both parties.”
Gloucester City will be Cheltenham Town’s third tenants at the ground during the past 20 years. Local clubs St Marks CA and Endsleigh FC both played home matches at the ground during the 1990s and a proposed ground-share with Bristol Rovers was abandoned at the last minute in 2009 due to problems with the re-development of Rovers’ Memorial Stadium ground.
Next season will not be the first time that Gloucester City have played home matches at the Abbey Business Stadium. The Tigers staged a handful of evening matches at the ground during season 1969-70 as their ground at Horton Road had no floodlights.
25 MARCH : COUNCIL SHOW TIGERS GREAT SUPPORT
Gloucester City Council tonight unanimously supported a £20k grant towards our groundshare next year. In return the club will work with the council on certain sporting initiatives, and will provide details of how we will achieve a return to Gloucester at the earliest opportunity. The grant will be reviewed in 12 months time and consideration given to providing a similar sum for the following season if required.
All at Gloucester City Football club would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jeremy Hilton for proposing this grant, to those on all sides of the chamber who spoke so passionately about our importance to the City and to the whole council for this unanimous approval of the grant.
Discussions with council officials will begin immediately to finalise the details.
