MANAGER PAYS TRIBUTE TO ADE TANDY AS NEW PHYSIO JOINS CITY

Gloucester City manager Dave Mehew has paid tribute to Ade Tandy, who is standing down as club physio after many years of service; "Ade has been a stalwart of the club over a long period, having taken over from his late father Bermard who was with the club himself for many years.  It is on the efforts of people like Ade that the club has built its success, and we are very sorry to see him go - we will certainly be giving him a suitable send-off at the earliest opportunity to say thanks for all these years of service to the club".

Ade is standing down because of the increased qualification levels required for BlueSquare football, and the club is pleased to announce that it has appointed Neil Light as their new physio for the coming season. Neil has recently moved to the area to work as a lecturer at the University of the West of England.  He has BSc and MSc qualifications in both sports rehabilitation and physiotherapy, and experience in both professional and and non-league football  in the north-west area

Meanwhile it might well be busy at pre-season training, as Mehew has decided to invite up to 8 trialists to join for that period as he looks to complete his squad "Other than a new keeper - which will be announced in due course - I dont expect to sign any new players now until I have had a look at the trialists in pre-season.  Perhaps one or two of them will get the nod for the coming season as finances obviously preclude a very large squad.

AGM CONFIRMS CITY IN NORTH

Following todays AGM for the Football Conference the club can confirm that it will be playing in the BlueSquare North for the coming season. League lineup as expected will be:

AFC Telford United,   Alfreton Town,   Blyth Spartans,   Corby Town,   Droylsden,   Eastwood Town,   Farsley Celtic,   Fleetwood Town,   Gainsborough Trinity,   Gloucester City,   Harrogate Town,   Hinckley United
Hyde United,   Ilkeston Town,   Northwich Victoria,   Redditch United,   Solihull Moors,   Southport,   Stafford Rangers,   Stalybridge Celtic,   Vauxhall Motors,  Workington

TRIO SIGN ON FOR NEW CAMPAIGN

Manager Dave Mehew has agreed deals for the continuation of the stays of Matt Rose, Neil Mustoe and Alex Sykes for the coming season.  All are seen as having a big part to play in the clubs adventure into the BlueSquare North.

SMITH SIGNS ON FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Manager Dave Mehew has confirmed that Lee Smith has signed on for another year;  " Lee has matured a lot as a player in the last year, and had a big season for us last time around" said Mehew, "if he continues with that progress then I firmly believe that he can continue to be a big influence on the team at the higher level, and I look forward to helping him to continue his development as a player".

PALMER SIGNS UP FOR CITY  AND WEBB COMMITS

James Palmer has signed for the 2009-10 season.  The midfielder joined City on loan last season from Weston Super Mare, and played 5 games before leaving for a trip to Australia. He now returns , as a City player, and will add competition to to the centre of the park.

James started out and a youngster at Bristol Rovers and signed an eighteen month professional contract, although he eventually moved on to Weston Super Mare in 2008 without a first team appearance for Rovers.

Meanwhile Manager Dave Mehew continues to secure last years squad, with the latest to commit for the coming season being Tom Webb.  The signature of "Webby" is a huge bonus for the club as he has been an influential player over a number of seasons. He is currently making good progress with his rehabilitation from a knee injury suffered in the first half of the play-off final.

Mehew will continue the process of speaking to each member over the coming weekend, and into next week.

BRISTOL CONNECTION COMMIT TO NORTHERN ADVENTURE

Gloucester City are delighted to announce that Jack Pitcher, Jack Harris, Luke Ballinger, Tom Hamblin and Lee Marshall have all committed to the club for the 2009-10 season.  Manager Dave Mehew said "I am delighted to say that, like me, the Bristol based players have all committed to the club for the coming season, despite the likelihood that we will be in the Blue Square North - all of us are up for the challenge and testing themselves at the higher level".

FIRST TWO SIGN UP FOR NEW CAMPAIGN

Gloucester City Manager Dave Mehew has completed his first  two signings of the summer, with Will Morford (right) putting pen to paper on a one year deal, and Mike Symons (left) joining the club on a permanent basis having finished the season on loan from Forest Green Rovers.

Dave Mehew said "we have moved quickly to sign both players up on 12 month deals because they are hot property and we know that they were attracting attention.  Symo has had several lucrative offers, but is happy at the club and believes that I can improve him as a centre forward, which is a great attitude, and we are delighted that both have put pen to paper."

Meanwhile Mehew has been in discussions to replace outgoing keeper Kevin Sawyer, and believes that this position is all-but filled, though an announcement will not be made for a while.  Commenting on the situation Mehew said "we have agreed a deal in principle for a keeper, and I am very happy with the situation, though we will not be in a position to actually announce the name for a while".  In addition, I should complete the signing of a very talented midfielder next week, who will add quality and competition to the squad, which has to be a good thing.

Having returned from a well-earned break Mehew will start talking to his squad shortly "I have told all of last years squad that they will be welcomed back for next season, but we agreed as a group to put off detailed discussions pending the decision on which division we will be playing in.  I know that there has been speculation about Lee Smith, but I have spoken to the player and despite the rumours he has not spoken to any other club at this time."

CITY MP TAKE UP LEAGUE ISSUE IN PARLIAMENT

Gloucester MP Parmjit Dhanda has published an early-day motion to highlight our wish to be placed in the BlueSquare South for next season. See the motion on the Parliament Website  Once again, City are indebted to Parmjit for his help.

FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK TO SUPER KEV

Gloucester City AFC announce the departure of imposing keeper Kevin Sawyer after two years with "The Tigers".  City Manager Dave Mehew stated "we part on good terms, and wish Kev every success in the future. He has been an excellent player for City, and contributed as much as anyone to our recent promotion success - his save just before half time at Farnborough will live long in mine and all City supporters memories.  But he has had a fabulous offer from Weston Super Mare, and I fully understand why he has chosen to take it - he goes with our best wishes for the future".

STATEMENT ON THE LOSS OF TIM HARRIS, AND FUTURE PLANS

Gloucester City AFC, wishes departing General Manager Tim Harris all the best for the future in his similar appointment with fellow Conference Club, Newport County.

Club Chairman Dave Phillips commented, 'Tim leaves with our blessing as he returns to a former club, and was greatly appreciated for the time and effort he put in at City over the last three and a half years.  After arriving from Merthyr Tydfil he was initially installed  as First Team Manager and for the last twelve months as General Manager.  During that time, the club has become stronger for his help, energy and guidance on and off the field, the evidence for this being shown by the recent climb to promotion from the BGB Southern League to attain a place in the Blue Square Conference for season 2009/10, via the play-off win at Farnborough a week ago now.'

Phillips went on to say, ' When change comes, and it does for everyone from time to time, there is usually reflection about the past and what that change might mean for the future.

In our case, with the timing of winning promotion, we must grasp the opportunity to gear up both on and off the field for the new challenges that lie ahead next season. David Mehew has had a dream first season as Manager and we have every faith in him continuing the good work. Off the field, with the departure of Tim, we are currently looking to re-vamp our club operations with a view to strengthening certain areas of activity, so that come August, we can be 'fit for purpose' in our new league environment. I have always held the view that it is necessary to be equally effective on and off the field to stand any real chance of sustained progress. Last season saw the fruits of that policy begin to ripen, and we haven't yet reached high summer by a long way! Running alongside that is the need to make substantive progress for the new ground back in Gloucester.'

SUPER CITY ARE PROMOTED AT LAST!!!

City  have secured a spot in the Blue Square league for next season.  A goal from Matt Rose - his first of the season - was enough to send the massive City following into raptures at Cherrywood Road with a 1-0 win over Farnborough.

All at the club would like to thank those massed City ranks for outstanding and noisy support throughout. You are a credit to the club!
