Preview: Darlington (h)

By Noah Woodland

Gloucester City host Darlington tomorrow at 3pm, with City coming off the back of a thrilling victory after securing their first 3 points in six league games with a 2-1 win over bottom of the table Farsley Celtic.

City and Darlington met earlier on in the season, with the teams sharing the points in a 2-2 draw. Ollie Hulbert scored twice to put city 2-0 up by the 55th minute, however a ten-minute spell saw Darlington draw level, causing the points to be shared on the day.

Our opponents are sat 14th in the National League North, and come to New Meadow Park after a 2-1 home win over Chester FC. Darlington have had a few eye catching results so far this season, including a 1-0 win over current 4th place side AFC Fylde, allowing them to be comfortably sat in 14th place, twelve points above the drop and nine points off the play-off spots.

However, City will be in good spirits after they picked up all three points against Farsley Celtic at The Citadel in their last match. With Ollie Hulbert back to scoring ways City will be further bolstered by Matt McClure who came off the bench at Farsley after recovering from his back injury. However defender Daniel Leadbitter looks set for a prolonged absence due to a ligament injury suffered in the last home match against Brackley. Kevin Dawson serves the last of his four game suspension.

City currently sit 7 points behind this weekend’s competition and will hope to close this gap further. A win would see city go to 26 points, which depending on results, would see them move up to 18th place in the league standings.
