Preview | Attention turns to the FA Trophy

City get back on the FA Trophy trail on Saturday with a first round proper tie at Redditch United (kick-off 3pm).

We go into the game on the back of Emirates FA Cup defeat at the hands of Barrow on Tuesday evening as our run in this competition came to an end at the hands of National League opponents.

Now our latest challenge sees us come up against Southern League Premier Central opponents who sit just below halfway in the table having won three of their 11 League games so far.

In the FA Trophy they battled out a 1-0 win at Bedworth United in the previous round, whilst we swept aside in-form Stafford Rangers.

“We stood up well to the challenge that Barrow presented to us over the two games,” said manager, Daf Williams. “They are arguably the most aggressive team in The National League and coupled with that, they have some fantastic players throughout their team.

“There were frustrating aspects, particularly in the second half on Tuesday, but I am proud of the way we stood up to the test that was in front of us and the run we had.

“Now the challenge is to put together a run in the FA Trophy. There are signs that we’re starting to turn a corner; the cup competitions have been a good distraction and we can take that into moving us up the table.

“But for now our focus is on progressing into the next round of the FA Trophy.”
