Preview: Bristol & West Ladies (h)

By Elliot Yates

Gloucester City Women face Bristol & West Ladies this Sunday at New Meadow Park with both sides coming into the game off high scoring fixtures in their last matches. City bounced back from a 5-1 defeat against Pucklechurch Sports to win 6-4 in the following match to Abbeymead Rovers. Our visitors Bristol & West prior to this game won 7-1 at home to Bishop Cleeve Ladies Firsts.

Manager Chris Hill predicts a close encounter:

“I think it will be a close game. They are organised and defensively strong so our forward players will need to be at their best in order for us to get something on Sunday, which I'm sure they will be. Team news wise, we still have Meg Long and Tegan Harding out with ACL injuries. The physios have been working hard on Zoe Gabb and Chloe Golding, so hopefully they will be available for selection as well come Sunday. Training has been good the last two weeks with real focus from the ladies. Good numbers as well, nearly 30 each session when it's as cold as it is this time of year is testament to their commitment and desire to pull on a shirt for Gloucester City.” - Chris Hill

City have now won two of their last three league matches and will be looking to build on their newfound form for their first game of 2022.

Bristol & West currently sit one place above Gloucester City in the Gloucestershire County Women’s Football League with three points the difference between us and the visitors, but City have one game in hand over Sunday’s opponents.

A win for City would take us level on points with our opponents sitting in 5th place heading into our next league fixture against Longwell Green Ladies with five games remaining to finish the season.
