Women | FA Cup history in the making

City’s weekend of Cup football continues on Sunday when our Women head to AFC Portchester in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup first round proper.

It’s the first time that we have featured at this stage of the competition as we take on fellow Tier 5 opponents who have lost one of their five Southern Region Women's Football League Premier games so far.

Meanwhile City have only faced two games in the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier thus far, losing 1-0 on the opening day to Poole Town before beating Pucklechurch Sports 3-2 in our last outing.

We have also beaten Ross Junior Women (6-0) and AFC Stoneham Ladies (2-0) in the qualifying stages of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

“Everyone is so excited for Sunday’s game,” said Luca Davis, one of the key members of the team and part of our League title triumph last term. “We’re really looking forward to being part of history in the making for the club.

“We’ll go out there and give it everything we’ve got; it’s going to be a great experience for us. Being American, I’m only just starting to appreciate how much the FA Cup means over here.

"It’s a special competition with the chance for us to progress and face some big clubs.”

Team-mate, Amanda Reimer, one of the new faces in the team this season, agrees.

“It’s an amazing feeling to help the club reach this stage for the first time,” she said. “The chance to get through and face a top club is there for us and we’ll be trying hard to achieve that.

“I’ve been to a couple of Women’s FA Cup finals and it just helps you to comprehend how big this competition is.

“It’ll be a tough game on Sunday, but we’ve prepared well and we’ll go there with plenty of belief.”

We send our best wishes to Chris Hill and the team.
