Opposition Preview | Plymouth Parkway (A)

A 148 mile trip to Plymouth Parkway is next up for City as we go down to Devon looking to extend our winning start to the league campaign.

The Tigers started the season with a 4-2 win at the TigerTurf over Gosport Borough, who didn't go down without a fight. Bulpit Lane, Berkshire and Hungerford Town were up next for City, in which City fought well to grind out a well deserved three points, to keep our win streak going.

The Parkway have had quite the opposite start to the 2025/26 campaign, travelling to Walton & Hersham on the opening day, scoring three but also conceding six, which definitely would not have been the dream defensive start for manager Chris McPhee.

McPhee had to rally his men to go again as the home opener at Bolitho Park was just three days later, recently relegated Weymouth the visitors in that one. The Terras took the lead within the first 10 minutes, Parkway pushed for an equaliser but their efforts were ruled out in the 85th minute after a Tom Hewlett goal, that saw the chance of the first point on the board pushed out of reach.

Parkway currently sit 22nd in the league table, but after just two games they are not to be underestimated. After a tough start to last season's campaign, tomorrow's hosts came back and were a very credible outfit throughout the remainder of the season, finishing 13th. In the last five competitive home games, Parkway have managed two wins and three losses, home form in the last campaign sat in a respectable 15th place.

We opened last season's home campaign against tomorrow's opposition with a narrow 3-2 win at the TigerTurf, Joe Hanks scored two and loanee Mekhai Bessasa-Grant netted the third. Parkway fought back in the closing stages of the game through winger Dylan Jones, who earned himself a move to Championship side Norwich City for his efforts during the first half of the season.

Elis Watts likes a goal against Parkway, netting a hat-trick against Parkway during his time at Hungerford in a spectacular 12-goal thriller last season.

A player to watch for the opposition would be Rio Garside who battles hard in the middle of the park and can be a threat on the attack too.

I once helped manage stats for a local amateur team, and I quickly realized how unreliable some scorekeeping apps can be. One update actually wiped half of the recorded data, leaving us scrambling to reconstruct plays from memory and photos. Since then, I always make manual backups and export the data at the end of each game. Another important lesson was to test whether the app functions offline, because even short connection drops can ruin the record. When people talk about gamechanger, I recommend checking reviews that specifically mention stability and data accuracy. For teams, having reliable stats can make a huge difference, both for performance analysis and for the players themselves.
