Gloucester City AFC are delighted to announce that Stuart Fleetwood will become Head of Academy at the club for the 2023/24 season. His role will be to coach and manage the U19's Professional Development Program in partnership with St Peter's High School. He will also liaise with our Head of Youth Development Program to ensure our pathway from foundation to St Peter's is an environment where we can develop local talent and give them every chance and support to breakthrough to the first team.
Head of Football Development, Chris Hill had this to say:
As we start to build a new structure and pathway underneath the first team it was imperative we made the right hire in such a crucial area of the club. Stuart is a young, ambitious coach who not just understands the academy model but is forward thinking in his approach to the total athlete. As a former professional player himself he will be able to relate to the challenges our U19's will face as they balance football and studies as well as the pressures of breaking through into the first team.
Stuart Fleetwood has enjoyed a 19 year professional football career that started at Cardiff City and has seen him make over 284 career appearances and scored over 65 goals throughout the football pyramid. The Gloucester born product has also represented Wales internationally at U21's level. He is due to complete his UEFA A qualification before the summer and as a qualified personal trainer will look to bring a sports science approach to the development of the academy.
Head of Academy, Stuart Fleetwood had this to say:
I'm delighted to be given the opportunity at my hometown club. Working alongside Titan Performance as we look to build the best performance offering in the county, with advanced talks on a performance centre being built at the club, which promises to be an integral part of developing players within the academy. I'm here to help coaches, develop local players and I have a clear identity and DNA for the academy that i can't wait to input and bring everyone up to speed.
