Saturday’s encounter at Wimborne Town is best described as a game of two halves.
Trailing by two goals at the break as we failed to get into our stride during the opening period, things improved in the second half as we pulled a goal back courtesy of Elis Watts, who came off the bench to make his mark, before levelling the scores late on thanks to Harry Pinchard's coolly-taken penalty.
The closing stages saw us push for a winner, but in the end, we had to settle for a point from opponents who are also in amongst the leading pack.
“We knew that they were a strong, physical and fit side,” admitted Watts, who entered the action for the second half and set us on our way with our opening goal on 75 minutes. “They came out flying in the first half; we gave them too much respect and they were able to win too many first and second balls.
“To be fair to Wimborne, they did play very well during the opening period, but we came out for the second half with nothing to lose and looking to play on the front-foot.
“I was pleased to be able to come on and make an impact. This is a tough place to come and they are unbeaten at home for a reason, so to take home a point, particularly from two goals down, is something that we’ll look at positively and aim to add to with three points on Friday night.
“The support that we received was brilliant. It was a difficult journey and this is a busy time for games, so to see the numbers that made the trip to support us really gave us a lift.
“We now get back into home action on Friday night under the lights for the visit of Yate Town. It’s going to be a good occasion and we want as many fans as possible to turn up and really get behind us as we look to get back into winning ways.
“Yate are a good side and they have found a bit of form recently, so it will be another tough one, but with everyone working together, we can get those three points!”
Friday’s game is going to be an occasion for all of the family to enjoy. There will be plenty happening here at the KMM Energy Stadium.
There will be fantastic food and drink, including the south-west famous Gurt Wings, who will be serving some delicious food, or why not grab yourself a slice from Openside Pizza or maybe pick up a football classic from Mike’s Kitchen?
With Christmas just around the corner, you’ll be able to do your retro football shopping at the pop-up stand from FitsZoo, whilst our Club Shop is packed with merch for that City-supporting loved one.
We’re also producing a special edition, 60-page, printed Matchday Programme, which will be bursting at the seams with great content covering all aspects of the club.
Come and be part of a great night. Under-12s go free and match tickets are on sale here...
