Preview | Quick turnaround on Tuesday

City get back into the battle for League points on Tuesday evening as we head to Basingstoke Town (kick-off 7.45pm).

We make the trip on the back of Isuzu FA Trophy progress at the weekend having beaten higher level opponents, Slough Town, on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

“I have mixed emotions,” admitted manager, Daf Williams, as he reflected upon Saturday’s performance. “Sometimes in Cup competitions you have to win ugly and I think that was the case here.

“There were plenty of positives to come from our first half showing, from both a technical and tactical point of view.

“But we didn’t get to grips with the game after the break and, to be fair, our hosts looked a threat going forward.

“We showed a lot of organisation and resilience towards the end and could have even pinched the tie ourselves before the final whistle.

“The priority was always to get into the hat for the next round and that’s exactly what we did. We would have liked to have caused them more problems, but we’ll take the positives into Tuesday’s game as we get back into the battle for League points.

“It’s a quick turnaround and a tough test lies ahead. Basingstoke have a good manager and sit just inside the top ten. Our travelling fans made a difference at the weekend and we need them right behind us again on Tuesday.”

Our hosts go into the game having won six of their 16 Premier South games to sit tenth on 21 points. They are fresh from a 2-1 win at Weymouth at the weekend.

We have already faced each other this season, as we battled out a 2-1 win at the end of September with goals from Joe Hanks and Aaron Wildig.
