Preview | More goals in mind for Spence

Goals in each of our last two games have put Sion Spence in good heart as we prepare for our latest challenge with a trip to Wimborne Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The accomplished midfield man is now back from the injury problems that halted his progress earlier in the season and is eager to continue adding goals to his game.

“I feel like my performances have been generally good,” he said. “I’ve been looking to add more goals and having found the net in each of the last two games, the hope is that this can continue and more will follow now.

“We’ve been playing well as a team and have dominated the majority of teams that we have come up against so far.

“That said, I still feel that we can turn our dominance into more flattering scorelines as I feel that a number of our performances have deserved that.

“From a personal point of view, it has been nice to get back into action over the past few weeks and make a contribution. Obviously, Tuesday’s result was disappointing and we have to ensure that we can respond in the right way at the weekend.

“This is such a competitive League; there are some tough games and I am expecting Saturday’s trip to Wimborne to be one of them, but as a team we know that we have levels to go and maybe defeat in our last outing will be the kick we need to be able to up our levels?”

Saturday sees us head to a Wimborne Town outfit who go into the game just outside the top five. They have lost just three times from their 16 League games so far this season and have games in hand over the teams above them after their encounter at Plymouth Parkway was postponed on Tuesday evening when their team coach was involved in an accident on route to Devon. Thankfully no-one was hurt.

With our hosts unbeaten on home soil so far this term, Spence knows that our travelling support will have a key role to play.

“The fans have been great so far this season,” he added. “We need the travelling contingent behind us every step of the way on Saturday, which I am sure they will be.

“This kind of backing is so important as we work towards our collective goal of promotion. We are lucky to have such great support.

“Hopefully we can give them something to be proud of and celebrate, not only on Saturday but over the course of the rest of the season.

“The ultimate objective is promotion; we make no secret of that. We want to win the League and to be able to do that will take a collective effort by everyone involved with the club.”
