After a disappointing result in Devon the attention turns to our second home fixture of the season as we host Hanwell Town at the TigerTurf Stadium this Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
Hanwell Town have started this season brightly, gaining six points from the possible nine up for grabs. On the opening day 'The Toon' travelled to Poole Town which was always going to be a tough fixture, narrowly losing 1-0.
Manager Chris Moore rallied his troops for their home opener against last season's 3rd place finishers Walton & Hersham, that one ending in a shock 1-0 win thanks to Alfie Pendlebury's first-half goal. Despite Joseph Wilson picking up a red card with 20 minutes to go, Moore's side managed to hold out for three points to get themselves up and running on the points front.
Another home fixture came thick and fast, hosting Yate Town at the Powerday Stadium, who are yet to get their first win on the board, currently sitting 22nd in the league. Hanwell took the lead before half-time through Daniel Carr's penalty.
Moore's men continued to pile on the pressure and the Yate defence eventually crumbled.
Two goals in quick succession, the first coming in the 63rd minute, Jordy Mongoy slotting home from close range. Pendlebury then put the nail in the coffin just two minutes later after a defensive mix up to leave The Toon in a very respectable, fourth place after three games.
Saturday's visitors finished last seasons campaign in 8th place, 12 points above the drop zone and 17 points off the play-off spots.
Interestingly, the away side have won silverware this week as they defeated Brentford B 3-0, to win the London Senior Cup Final, which may lead to some squad rotation come Saturday afternoon.
Last season's outings with Hanwell Town were a mixed bag, travelling to their ground at the end of September being halted to a 0-0 draw, however when The Geordies came to the TigerTurf, City put five past them which made for an entertaining game.
Club History
With over a century of history, Hanwell Town is one of the oldest non-league clubs in West London, having been founded in 1920. With a devoted local fan base and strong grassroots ties, the club, known as The Geordies because of their black-and-white striped uniform, has been an integral part of the Hanwell and Ealing community since its inception.
Since 1981, the team has called The Powerday Stadium home, and it continues to be a focal point for local football. It has played host to innumerable noteworthy events over the years, including FA Cup runs and promotions.
Prior to moving up to the Isthmian League, Hanwell had success in the Spartan South Midlands League during their ascent through the non-league pyramid.
The Geordies achieved a significant milestone in 2022 when they were promoted to Step 3 for the first time and played in the Southern League Premier South.
