Opposition Preview | Evesham United (A)

We take on Evesham United at the very familiar Spiers & Hartwell Stadium this August Bank Holiday Monday as we look to get our away form back on track.

The Robins were promoted from the Southern League Division One South after they succeeded in the play-offs in a Worcestershire derby against Malvern Town, winning 1-0 to send them to Step 3 for the first time in 13 years.

United have started the season in a respectable manner, winning 3-1 away on the opening day at Weymouth who were relegated from step 2 last season. Monday's hosts then showed great grit to come from behind at home to Basingstoke, Andre Wright scoring in the 66th minute to earn their first home point of the season. However, Mike Ford's side couldn't remain unbeaten after they hosted Havant & Waterlooville, losing that one 1-0, a Ryan Seager goal after 23 minutes the difference in that one.

The Robins fought hard for a draw on Saturday away at Poole Town, going behind with twenty minutes to go, but replying instantly through Andre Wright who has scored two in the opening four.

The last time we faced The Robins in a competitive fixture was on the 17th March 2009, a 2-0 win in the Southern Premier League, Lee Smith scoring both on the day.

Club History

Evesham United, nicknamed The Robins, were founded in 1945 and are based in Worcestershire. They originally played at Crown Meadow before moving to Common Road in 1969, where they stayed until the development of their current ground, The Spiers & Hartwell Stadium, which opened in 2012.

The club has a strong history in non-league football, competing in the Midland Combination, Hellenic League, and later the Southern League. Their most successful period came in the mid-2000s when they won the Southern League Western Division title in 2004–05, earning promotion to the Premier Division.

One of their most memorable moments came in the FA Cup in 2008, when they reached the First Round Proper for the first time in their history, playing against Torquay United live on national TV.

Tickets for the game are available here.
