Match Report: Hungerford Town 1-2 Gloucester City

Goals from Sopuruchukwu Obieri and Ben Morgan the difference at Bulpit Lane as we take three points in what was a tight affair in Berkshire.

The game started and it was all City from the off, the first shot coming from Elis Watts who struck at goal but his shot rose just too high.

City continued to pile on the pressure and it was Sopuru Obieri who was most alert in the box, just at the right moment.

Joe Hanks unleashed a shot which was deflected, the ball spiralled toward the back post and a failed chest back to Hungerford goalkeeper Luke Cairney resulted in Obieri poking the ball home from point blank range, scoring his first in a City shirt.

City continued to control the stop-start style game implemented by the referee, up until the half-time whistle blew.

The Crusaders came out slightly more on the front foot, however the downhill slope would have advantaged the speed of their attacking play throughout the second-half.

City found themselves with a set-piece and a combination of two defenders resulted in a two goal advantage just before the 60 minute mark.

Ed Williams floated the ball toward the back post which found Michael O’Regan’s head, he headed across to Ben Morgan, who nodded the ball into the back of the net.

Hungerford were then forced to make some attacking changes, and using the slope and some tricky set-piece tactics. James Ollis slotted home to cut the advantage in half with 15 to go.

Some great efforts from substitutes Dylan Jones and Kieran Phillips were vital in holding out for three points, running their socks off in the final moments right up until the final whistle blew.
