Match Report: Gloucester City 3-0 Hanwell Town

Gloucester City defeated Hanwell Town 3-0 at the TigerTurf Stadium on Saturday, to secure their third win of the season.

It was a quiet start to the game, with City retaining the majority of the ball, alongside creating a few half chances which led to nothing.

The hosts would soon make their mark on the game, as Harry Pinchard let out a superb curled strike from outside the box which flew into the back of the net, scoring his first goal of the season.

Just two minutes later, City looked to counter from a corner with Sion Spence ready to break away, however, the number 10 was brought down on the halfway line, with the opposition player receiving a yellow card, despite being the last man.

The chances would continue to flow for City, with players from the defence, midfield, and attack, all looking to get on the scoresheet, but none of the opportunities would prove fruitful.

Two chances in two minutes nearly saw the home side increase their advantage, with Kieran Phillips' close range effort ultimately being a tame one, before Dylan Jones burst down the right-hand side and saw his shot tipped on to the post.

Hanwell looked to find an equaliser just before half-time as Jordy Mongoy found himself in on goal, however, a brilliant last-ditch block from Daniel Leadbitter saw the Tigers preserve their lead, going into the break.

Similarly to the first, it was a slow start to the second 45 as both sides looked to settle into the game again.

However, 11 minutes into the second-half City would spring into action, as Elis Watts dribbled past half of the Hanwell team, before cutting inside and smashing it into the bottom corner to net his first of the campaign, to double the lead.

City number nine Kieran Phillips would also get off the scoring mark just five minutes later, with the striker being played through on goal before taking it round the keeper and slotting it in the empty net to put his side up by three.

Following the goal, it was all defence on the City players minds, with the visitors taking control of possession, but the hosts remained resilient to retain the lead.

The opposition would put the ball in the opposition net, however, the goal wouldn't stand due to offside.

The home side would look to cause more chaos in attack as the game drew to a close, in the form of substitutes King Baidoo Sopuruchwku Obieri, but neither player were able to get themselves on the scoresheet, despite some half chances.

City travel away to Evesham United on Bank Holiday Monday.
