Match Report: Gloucester City 2-0 Dorchester Town

Gloucester City defeated Dorchester Town 2-0 at New Meadow Park on Saturday, going top of the league, and to make it five games unbeaten.

It was a comfortable first five minutes for the home side, as City controlled possession, with a few decent crosses flying into the box, though, nobody was there to get on the end of them.

However, it would be the visitors who had the first big chance to go ahead, as Harry Emmett's header back to goal was a soft one which forced Jared Thompson to come off his line and leave an open goal for Joe Parker, but his chipped effort went just wide in the end.

Dorchester would continue to apply pressure to the City goal, as Parker once again found himself on the end of a counter, however, his near-post effort was saved by Thompson.

A free-kick a few minutes later would be the catalyst for a City goal, as a set piece routine saw Ed Williams whip a tidy ball in to a sea of bodies in the box, with the ball bouncing around in the air before Kieran Phillips smashed it in the back of the net to take the lead, in the 12th minute.

The game would quieten done following the goal, as both teams had spells of possession, though, neither side created any proper chances.

The Magpies would start to grow into the game, as Wayne Robinson proved a nuisance for City's defence, finding himself in plenty of good positions to score and set-up a goal for his side.

Once again, the game wouldn't see much action as the first-half came to a close, despite a great chance for Sion Spence during the added time, but his effort was a tame one, and a comfortable save for the goalkeeper.

As the second 45 began, it was Spence who yet again found himself in the thick of the action, as a brilliant ball over the top saw the Welshman one-on-one with the keeper, however, he would hit it straight at the keeper, before the flag was raised for offside.

Dylan Jones would be the next City player who found himself with a chance to double the lead, as a brilliant driving run lead to him firing a shot from outside the box, which was saved by the keeper.

A foul in the City penalty area saw a spot-kick awarded to Dorchester, but Thompson saved Robinson's penalty, making it two penalty saves for him this week.

The action would once again turn cagey following the spot-kick save, as the majority of City's attacks led to an offside flag being raised.

It would be a continuous theme of the second-half, with a notable moment seeing Joe Hanks played in with a ball over the top, as the midfielder put it in the back of the net with ten minutes to go, before he was flagged for a questionable offside.

Sopuruchukwu Obieri looked dangerous on the bench, and came close to increasing the lead for City, as some slick step-overs gave him an opportunity to shoot at goal, but his effort went inches wide.

As the game came to an end, the visitors would continue to apply pressure to City's backline, however some brilliant defending, and great goalkeeping saw the home side keep their clean sheet intact.

Obieri would continue to look a threat in the final moments of the action, as he made his way into the Dorchester box in added time through some dazzling dribbling, before his shirt was pulled and he was brought down to win City a penalty in the 93rd minute.

Joe Hanks would step up, and stutter, before perfectly placing it in the bottom corner to put City two ahead, killing the game, and making it two goals in two for himself.
