Match Report | Farnham Town 3-3 Gloucester City

Farnham Town hold us to a draw in a six-goal-thriller at The Memorial Ground this evening in what was a great game in Surrey.

The game started off cagey with both sides not really having a chance for the opening ten to fifteen minutes of the game. City controlled possession in the opening stages of the match and eventually the Farnham defence cracked.

Keiran Thomas got his head onto the end of a long Jared Thompson ball to send Joe Hanks through on goal, Hanks struck low and hard across the keeper and into the bottom left-hand corner to put us one ahead just shy of the half-hour mark, on his 300th appearance for the club.

City continued to pile on the pressure, and the second came just before half-time through none other than Hanks again. Dan Leadbitter played an inviting ball over the top to our number 13 who slotted home on his weaker foot, across the keeper and in-off the post.

Farnham came out all guns blazing at the start of the second-half and after just four minutes, the hosts had one back through Owen Dean after he got onto the end of an inviting cross.

The Town continued to pile on the pressure and shortly after, they were awarded a penalty. Ben Morgan's arm connected with the ball after being pushed in the back, Darryl Sanders converting it into the top right hand corner.

Things went from bad to worse after 67 minutes, Dylan Jones sent-off for after a second yellow offence leaving City with ten-men with just over 2o minutes to go.

Daf Williams turned to the bench and added Harry Emmett to fill in the left-back role, before also subbing on Aaron Wildig and Sopuruchukwu Obieri who also had a huge impact on the result.

Harry Pinchard broke up the left-hand side on the counter attack, sending a loose ball up the line for Obieri to chase, the teenager picked the pocket of the Farnham defender, and was brought down inside the box. The referee pointing to the spot after a delayed pause.

Pinchard picked up the ball and slotted it cooly into the bottom right hand corner, sending City 3-2 ahead, with 10-men and ten minutes plus added-time to go.

With one minute of normal time to go, Farnham threw everything at City, and after a controverisal decision at the other end involving Obieri being fouled inside the box, the referee pointed to the spot when Morgan bundled over Obi inside the box.

Substitute Harry Cooksley stepped up and slotted, to level the game once more, with five minutes of added time to play.

Farnham continued to pile on the pressure, however the City defence stood tall and the points were split at the end of the night.
