Isuzu FA Trophy | Slough Town test awaits in round two

City’s reward for overcoming the challenge of Havant & Waterlooville in the first round of the Isuzu FA Trophy at the weekend is an away trip in round two.

A debut goal from Marcus Day saw us edge past the Hawks to earn a tie at National League South outfit, Slough Town, on November 15th.

The Rebels currently find themselves in the lower reaches of the table with 12 points to their name from 13 League outings so far, the latest of which was a 4-1 home reverse at the hands of Maidstone United at the weekend.

“An away draw at any National League South club is always going to be tough,” admitted Harry Emmett. “But we’ll go there with no pressure on us and full of confidence.

“It will be a good test for us and an opportunity to showcase what we’re all about against higher level opponents and hopefully our quality can come to the fore.

“Saturday saw us put in a good, solid team performance to make it through. We had a few chances throughout the game, but stuck to the task in hand to get through courtesy of a late goal.

“It was nice to keep a clean sheet and get back into winning ways following the late disappointment at the hands of Berkhamsted in our previous game.

“Personally I was happy with parts of my game on Saturday; I know that there are areas in which I can improve, but I am just enjoying being out there and working hard for the team.

“The Premier South is again proving to be a good standard this season and it’s a test that I face with relish. As a group we’ve put in some strong performances and we know that there is still a lot more to come from us as we go into what is a busy November with the games coming thick and fast.

“It’s a packed schedule, but that is a good thing for us because we’re in a good rhythm right now and playing regularly helps to build that momentum.

“The important thing is to manage recovery between games and not look too far ahead. We’ll just take it a game at a time and look to keep progressing and building confidence as we go.”

Our involvement in the Isuzu FA Trophy means that our scheduled League game at Tiverton Town on Saturday, November 15th will have to be rearranged.
