Interview | Williams ready for the latest battle on Monday evening

It’s destination Bracknell Town FC this evening as our busy schedule of Pitching In Southern League Premier South matches continues.

Hot on the heels of a big three points against fellow high-flyers, Sholing on Saturday, we now head to hosts who are searching for a spark to ignite their own campaign.

A record of just one win from nine doesn’t make good reading for the home side, but Ed Williams knows only too well that our approach has to be right as we look to add to our points tally and go back to the top of the embryonic League table.

“We’ve recovered well and now we go there fully focussed and ready for the task in hand,” he said. “It’ll be another tough test, they all are at this level, but there is plenty of belief amongst our group.

“If we bring the same energy, discipline, and togetherness as we did at the weekend, we’ll give ourselves every chance of picking up another positive result.

“Saturday was a good game, with two good teams going at it. I’d say that Sholing were the best team we’ve faced so far at home and it proved to be a real physical challenge.

“However, we deserved the win in the end; we created the better chances overall and showed plenty of character throughout.

“Personally I enjoyed the battle out there and I was pleased to be able to contribute in the way I did. It was a solid display all-round with everyone, including those that came off the bench, making an impact.

“At this level, it’s not always about who plays the better football, it’s about who wants it more, who’s willing to run that extra yard or put their body on the line. That attitude is part of the DNA here at City.

“We’re building something with a strong foundation, and the manager has instilled this into us. We have huge amount of quality in our side but to have this attitude week in week out wins you Leagues.

“The contribution of the fans also can’t be under-estimated. Their backing means everything, to be honest.

“You really feel it on the pitch when the fans are behind you, especially in those difficult moments late in the game.

“Their support gives you that extra push, and we’re proud to represent them. Hopefully we can keep giving them performances and results to shout about this season.”
