Interview | Wildig in a good place

It’s been a long road, but with each week that passes Aaron Wildig is making progress.

The 33 year-old was forced to bring the curtain down on a long EFL career, which included over 200 games for Morecambe, during the summer having ruptured knee ligaments whilst playing for Newport County against Grimsby Town in November 2024.

He has worked hard on his recovery since then and jumped at the chance of linking up with Daf Williams here at City over the summer.

“It’s not been an easy injury to overcome, especially at my age,” he admitted. “You think that everything is going well in rehab but then you get back out on the pitch and it does take a bit of time to get back into the swing of things.

“At the moment for me it’s all about gradually building up the minutes; the Gaffer has been great with me, he fully understands the situation and I feel as though I’m in a good place right now.

“I’m pleased to be able to come on and make a contribution, as I did with the goal on Monday evening. I’m not quite at the stage where I can do 90 or 60 minutes at the moment, but that will come in the weeks ahead.

“Once I am at that stage, I’ll be able to kick on and take things from there.”

Wildig, who started his career within the youth ranks at Cardiff City, is full of praise for the start that City have made to the season.

Just one defeat from 11 League games leaves us in second place ahead of Saturday’s mouth-watering visit of Poole Town, who sit just one place and two points below us.

“The lads have been excellent,” he added. “We put in a professional performance at Bracknell Town on Monday where we managed to grind it out and find a way to win.

“We faced two tough games and the quick Saturday-Monday turnaround made it even more tricky, but we came through the test to take maximum points and set things up nicely for Saturday and the visit of a Poole Town outfit who have also been flying so far.

“The fans that travelled to Bracknell were fantastic, as always, and we need good numbers turning out on Saturday to really get behind us and play their part in another positive result.”

To add to the festivities on Saturday, we’ll have a special pre-match interview on the PA system ahead of the game, so get here in good time to hear that and much more besides!

Please note that the game will be fully segregated, with tickets available here…
