Youth | Plenty to look forward to

There is plenty to get excited about within the Gloucester City AFC youth ranks this season.

Our U18s have already made a positive start to their season in the FA Youth Cup, whilst the introduction of our new reserve team adds to our pathway from the young age groups right through to the first-team.

We spoke to Head of Youth, Josh Taylor, at the start of what is going to be an action-packed season for all involved.

“Our Junior Premier League sides, from U12s through to U16s, return to competitive fixtures in September and we’re excited to see what another season brings for all five age groups,” he said. “Our U18s have already started strongly, progressing in the FA Youth Cup with an excellent 9–1 victory over Larkhall Athletic earlier this month. They will now travel to Yate Town in the next round.

“This season also sees the introduction of our new Reserve Team, competing in the Herefordshire Premier League. This is an important part of our long-term plan to create a clear pathway from youth football into our first team.

“We know there will be challenges in the short term as we continue to build the programme, but our focus is firmly on long-term development and success for Gloucester City AFC.

“We’re already seeing positive signs, with 3–4 U18 and Reserve players featuring in first-team friendlies and training sessions during pre-season. Long may that continue.

“There is a lot to be excited about across the youth section this season, and we look forward to seeing our players continue to develop, progress and represent the club.”
