Youth | Building for the future

Beyond the first-team of both the City men’s and women’s teams there is a thriving youth section packed with emerging young talent, passionate and committed coaches and, of course, supportive parents and carers.

It’s a real team effort as we nurture the potential playing talent of the future as well as stimulating a sense of pride in the club that will, hopefully, last a lifetime amongst the youngsters that are involved.

Our boys’ youth section, which spans from the U12 age group to U18s, currently boasts well over 100 players and is overseen by Head of Coaching and Youth, Josh Taylor.

“I oversee the development and progression of our U12 to U18 age groups,” he said. “Our aim is to develop footballers and people; helping players grow both on and off the pitch.

“Our U12–U16 teams compete in the Junior Premier League, which is the highest level of football outside of the academy structure.

“Meanwhile, our U18s, managed by Shaun Poole and myself, compete in the Cheltenham Floodlit Premier Division.

“We are fortunate to have such committed players, coaches and parents involved. Our long-term aim is to develop players capable of progressing into the Gloucester City AFC first team and beyond, whilst it is also important that we are able to create the right environment to allow youngsters to flourish and, importantly, enjoy their football.”

In the weeks and months ahead, we will be delving a bit deeper into what goes on within our youth ranks, amongst our boys’ and girls’ sections, and showcasing all of the hard work that goes on both on and off the pitch.
