Preview | Marathon not a sprint

City have an instant opportunity to bounce back from Saturday’s opening day defeat as we head to Bracknell Town on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).

Whilst we were going down to a 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Chertsey Town on Saturday, Bracknell Town were crashing to a 7-0 loss at Plymouth Parkway following a pre-season of comings and goings.

“We were naturally disappointed with the result at the weekend,” said manager, Daf Williams. “You always want to start the season with a win, especially at home, but credit to our visitors who were very good and did their job well.

“It took us a while to get going, but when we did, we managed to get the ball into some really good areas but we were unable to hurt them enough and that is something that we have to look at and improve upon.

“The goal that we conceded was poor and it came at a time when we were on top. It gave them something to hold on to and we were unable to get back into it.

“We’ll learn from this and as we know only too well, this is a marathon not a sprint.

“There’s an instant chance for us to bounce back on Tuesday at Bracknell Town. We’ve done our rest and recovery and we’ll go there well prepared and ready to go again.

“Overall it wasn’t a bad performance at the weekend; there are aspects that I was very pleased with and we’ll stick together to ensure that we can respond with the right result and give the travelling supporters something to cheer about.

“Thank you to those that came along on Saturday and those that will be following us on the road on Tuesday. Your support means a lot to us.”
