Preview: Gateshead (A)

City return to league action tomorrow (25th September) when they make the long trip to Gateshead FC.

The Tigers will be wanting to kick start the season after a run of disappointing results in the league, hopefully spurred on by last week’s FA Cup victory over Longlevens.

We caught up with the Gaffer Paul Groves and midfielder Max Sheaf as the team trained at Sunderland’s Academy of Light today:

Team News

Kevin Dawson is back from suspension, and after Bernard Mensah made his long awaited return from injury last weekend he could be in contention.

Fabien Robert is serving the final match of his three game suspension.

The Opposition

Gateshead are yet to drop a point at home in the league, with their victories coming against Guiseley and Kettering, plus an away win at Kidderminster, moving them up the sixth place in the table. Whilst they put six goals past fellow NLN members Bradford PA in the FA Cup last week, Mike Williamson’s men have yet to keep a clean sheet in seven matches across all competitions.

Last Time Out

Under caretaker Manager Jake Cole, City went down 1-0 at The Gateshead International Stadium last November, our first league defeat of the season.

Head to (Gates)Head

City are yet to record a win against the Heed Army in two previous away encounters. Both corresponding home fixtures were cancelled when the seasons were curtailed.
