City burst back into Premier South action last weekend with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Hungerford Town to strengthen our position amongst the front-runners going into the festive period.
A hat-trick from Elis Watts against his former club saw us taste victory for the 14th time in our 21 League games so far.
“The main thing was to get back into League action with a win to add to our points tally,” admitted Watts. “So to win by such a big margin was an added bonus and I am always buzzing to get a hat-trick.
“It was nice to have won by such a convincing margin; we looked much more fluid in the final third and took our chances.
“We’ve won a lot of games by one or two goal margins, but we’ve been threatening this kind of result for a while.”
It’s a positive result and performance to take into our festive games, which start with a trip to Taunton Town on December 27th.
Our hosts have recently unveiled the experienced Gary Johnson as their new manager as they look to move away from the lower reaches of the table.
The former Cheltenham Town Director of Football had a watching brief on Tuesday as his new team slipped to a stoppage time defeat at Hungerford Town and Saturday’s game will be his first in the dug-out.
“It will be a tough game, especially away from home,” added Watts. “They have some good players in their ranks and, of course, a new manager in charge who has had a long career at higher levels.
“We’ll prepare well and be ready to go again and pick up from where we left off in our last game.”
