City head into this Saturday‘s game after a 1-1 draw away at York City last weekend, thanks to a 90th minute penalty from skipper Kevin Dawson rescuing a point for the Tigers and securing National League football next season.
Earlier on in the season City found themselves on the receiving end of a disappointing 9-0 defeat away to Chorley prior to Lee Mansell taking charge. City’s last win against Chorley was two years ago with Matt McClure and Gavin Gunning scoring in a 1-2 victory.
City will be without Tom Harrison as he received a one game suspension for a red card against York. Lee Mansell has also confirmed that Ben Nugent will unfortunately be out for the rest of the season due to an ongoing injury. Daniel Leadbitter is also ruled out of Saturday’s game with an ankle injury, however Mansell is hopeful he will be available for the next two matches.
The Magpies are looking to cement their place in the playoffs after a victory against Telford last weekend. Ollie Shenton scored the only goal of the game, his seventh of the season, and Chorley now sit in fifth place and a point could guarantee them a playoff spot if other results go their way.
Ahead of the game Mansell praised the upcoming opposition:
“I think they’re a good side, they’re in the play offs for a reason, they’re consistent in what they do and they’ve got goals from midfield as well which is going to be a threat with their rotation. It will be a tough game, they’ll want to secure the play-offs. There’s plenty of threats but there’s plenty of threats in every game in this league so for me, we worry about 10-15 per cent of the opposition, the rest we worry about ourselves and how we can exploit their weaknesses. The process doesn’t change, we’ll just crack on as normal.”
