Hello guest
Your basket is empty
With the blog now finished, I wanted to keep fans, players and the wider football world updated in these concerning times … as today I’ve had a number of calls and emails …
Like all clubs within the National League structure, I submitted on the weekend our financial support questionnaire. With our return home to Meadow Park these should be exciting times within the club and City, yet we find ourselves concerned over the lack of fans returning to our home back in Gloucester. I’m very grateful to our 448 season ticket holders and I’m hopeful that the 107 people that didn’t complete on the sale will come back once fans are allowed back in to “Elite Sports Grounds”. The sad fact is 555 people (448 + 107) will be missing out week after week on watching live sport at Meadow Park as a minimum, which clearly excludes away fans!

We’re at a massive disadvantage to every other club in the National League structure, I have this afternoon watched Nigel Huddleston MP in the House of Commons state that “Funding will be focused on those most in need and it will be based on the loss of gate receipts”. This would mean Gloucester would be graded on gate and income receipts from years gone by, while we played at Evesham, some 45 minutes up the M5, where last season we had an average attendance of 441 including away fans. This just simply cannot happen …

As a club and National League structure we received a grant of £15k (thank you) for support to undertake the new Covid protocols. Sadly, as we proved when we applied for the grant, our actual spend to get Meadow Park ‘Covid ready’ for a better phase, to allow fans in for the 01 Oct 2020, was triple the cost of the grant. We’ve spent money on extra toilets, line marking, new exit points, additional bar doors to allow a one way system to be installed, enough hand sanitizer to sink a battle ship etc etc … My fear is we’re about to re-live this experience again … with us being forced to run the football club (which don’t forget has a company number, not a charity number), knowingly insolvent.

Due to the current times we’ve also lost all ground sponsors … all the stands are un-sponsored, the stadium naming rights deal fell through on the announcement of no fans and we’ve got no ground boards … As we were in contract, we’ve completed on the new LED scoreboard this week as we wanted to give fans a surprise for there return … now that just seems a waste of money!

We are looking at streaming games still … we have just spent more money undertaking the required infrastructure and equipment upgrades. But again, this is more outgoing money and I can’t help but feel going to Las Vegas and going all in on ‘Red or Black’ would have been a better business model … hang about … I couldn’t fly … make that Blackpool … or is that also now a no go … I’ve lost track!

As it stands, we’ve Christchurch away Saturday in the FA Cup … I’ve told the lads the solution is simple, let’s go and win the FA Cup!

Always believe … there’s always one more round!
