Gloucester City Supporters Trust will recognise the remarkable achievement of Tom Webb, the club’s longest ever serving player, with a night of celebration to coincide with the End of Season Presentation Evening.
Webb has made over 700 appearances for Gloucester City since making his debut in the 2000/01 season as a 16 year-old away at Bromsgrove Rovers in April of that campaign.
One of the key players in the Tigers famous 2002/03 FA Trophy run, Webb cemented himself in the starting XI that season as a more advanced playmaker.
His ‘coming of age’ moment came when he scored the opening goal away at Woking to set his side on the way to a 2-0 replay win, before he put the game to bed away at Southport in the 5th Round replay, scoring the third goal in a 3-1 victory that sent Chris Burns’ team into the quarter-finals.
Two seasons later, Webb enjoyed one of his most successful personal campaigns, as he played in every minute of every league game in City’s first season back in the Southern League Premier.
The trend of scoring big goals in big games continued for most of his career, including the equaliser against Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup of 2014/15 and a last minute winner against Chorley in the same season that all but guaranteed the Tigers Conference North safety for another year.
The P.E. teacher at Chosen Hill School, Gloucester, has achieved legendary status amongst Gloucestershire football fans and as such has garnered respect from supporters county-wide.
The event takes place two days after Webb’s 34th birthday at Walls Club, Barnwood, on Friday 4 May.
Tickets are still available for supporters to come and show their appreciation for the club’s greatest ever servant, priced at just £10 for Adults and £5 for juniors.
Should you wish to attend on what will be an incredibly memorable evening, you can buy your tickets from the club shop on a home match day or contact Supporters Trust chairman Ian Compton on 07769 356243.
Gloucester City are next at home against St. Alban’s City on Tuesday 17 April, before the final home game of the season at the Jubilee Stadium with East Thurrock United the visitors on Saturday 21 April.
A buffet will be provided on the night; doors open at 19:00 with a view to the proceedings starting at 19:30.
Special guests will be present on the night, as they join the Supporters Trust, the club and its supporters together to pay tribute to the incredible career of an incredible player.
