Gloucester City First Team Manager Tim Harris has issued the following statement in regard to Jasbir Singh and Luke Hopper.

“The end of season tour this year to the beautiful country of Portugal concluded a special season for the players and staff.

The news received whilst relaxing in the sun obviously had some consequence with our star goalkeeper and vice captain Jasbir Singh.

The decision for Gloucester City to move to The Vanarama National South was always going to put the decision of our goalkeeper in jeopardy being Birmingham based.

Having spoken to Jasbir this morning at length, we have to make 100% sure that a commitment to stay with Gloucester City on both sides is not based on emotion and then a few months into the season we feel it’s not worked out for both parties.

Jasbir Singh has done incredibly well for this football club and played a big part in us being a very competitive side in the Vanarama National North division, the affection for a genuine guy from our fans, players and staff is there for everyone to see.

We have both decided to explore alternatives then make a decision on what is best for Gloucester City Football Club and Jasbir Singh.”

“Whilst away I had several communications with Luke Hopper who couldn’t attend the end of season tour, it was quite obvious that he had made his mind up to pursue other options he had received and wanted to get it done prior to his holiday.

He told me the offers he’s had on the table, so all was left was to wish him well and thank him for all his efforts in a Gloucester City Shirt.

It was a big commitment from Luke last season, he lived 1 hour 15 mins from our away pick up and when you are leaving at 9am not getting back until 9pm then having another hour plus to drive home, perhaps some fans may understand how well he performed under the circumstances.

The facts are we are going South would of course been much simpler for Luke, though I will say, don’t for one minute think its going to be any easier to compete in the Vanarama National South as opposed the North.

I am looking forward to next season immensely and the challenges that it brings, and I hope to see lots of you at our first pre-season friendly against Evesham United on the 8th July.
