Before we welcomed in 2017, gloucestercityafc.com gave Tigers fans the opportunity to vote for their favourite moment from the calendar year just gone.

Following the postponement of our New Year’s Day game with Brackley Town due to a waterlogged pitch, the voting period was extended and we can now reveal the result of the poll.

It was a tightly run contest, with the eventual winner triumphing by a single vote!

The best Tigers moment of 2016, as voted for by the fans, was Luke Hopper’s two hat-tricks at the start of the 2016/17 National League North campaign.

“Thank you to all the fans that voted in the poll” said Hopper. “It’s always nice to score one or two goals, but it’s such a great feeling when you get three and so to be able to get both hat-tricks earlier on in the season was unbelievable!

“Scoring goals is a great feeling, but it’s also a great feeling to be able to repay the fans for their support. Not just myself, all the boys and the coaches are thankful for all the support they show, travelling up and down the country every week.”

Looking ahead to 2017, Hopper says that individually and collectively the team are looking to turn in some better results, in the midst of a run that has seen City lose six league games on the spin.

“Hopefully now I can progress and add to my goal tally” Hopper said. “The most important thing, though, is that the team get back to winning ways and push on up the table.”

Congratulations, Luke, and thank you to all the fans that voted!

We are next in action on Saturday 7 January as we kick-off our 2017 away to Altrincham. A supporters coach will be running to Moss Lane, leaving Meadow Park at 10:30 and priced at £15 a seat with cheaper deals available for family and juniors.
