Gloucester City fought back from two goals down to grab a deserved 2-2 draw away to Stockport County, writes Alex Anderson.\r\n\r\nGoals from Will Morford and Darren Edwards during an eight minute second half spell cancelled out Rhys Turner’s opener and a own goal from Tom Webb.\r\n\r\nStockport had the first effort on goal after three minutes when a long ball over the top found Kristian Dennis, the striker worked space to get a shot away under pressure from Sam Rawlings but hit it straight at Mike Green who saved easily at his near post.\r\n\r\nThe home side continued to look the more threatening throughout the early exchanges and took the lead.\r\n\r\nMidfielder Robert Lofthouse slipped the ball through to Rhys Turner who accelerated away from the Gloucester City defence and tucked the ball into the far corner.\r\n\r\nGloucester looked to respond immediately as Joe Parker played Will Morford in down the right hand side,  the striker then played a dangerous ball across the six yard box that Mullings would have connected with if not for Ian Ormson coming out of the Stockport goal to punch the ball clear.\r\n\r\nGloucester’s best chance of the half came in the 31st minute after good play down the left hand side from Matt Liddiard. The midfielder got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Darren Mullings inside the area but he shot wide of the near post.\r\n\r\nStockport could have doubled there lead with the next attack as two chances went begging;  Turner got in down the left and pulled back before Dennis poked the ball wide of the post in a scramble.\r\n\r\nThen, the ball found its way to Lofthouse on the edge of the area and he curled a left footed shot just wide of the post.\r\n\r\nThe game was now being played at a good tempo and Gloucester nearly equalised in a goal mouth scramble after a whipped in corner from the left,  the ball bobbled around in the box for what seemed like an eternity before Stockport finally cleared.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers had a great chance at the start of the second half as Morford battled his way through to be one on one with Ian Ormson but the keeper saved well at the striker’s feet.\r\n\r\nThe rebound then fell to Darren Edwards but he failed to hit the target with an off balance strike.\r\n\r\nStockport then began to take control off the game again and Dennis played a dangerous cross straight across the face of goal that nobody in a blue shirt could tap home.\r\n\r\nThe home side then completely seized the initiative and it looked as if it wad going to be their afternoon as the impressive Turner broke down the right and had space to run into.\r\n\r\nThe Hatters’ striker smashed the ball across the face of goal but this time the ball ricocheted off the unfortunate Tom Webb to double the lead.\r\n\r\nAt this point it looked as if Gloucester were out of the running tcompletely  but they pulled one back soon after.\r\n\r\nDarren Edwards saw his shot parried and the rebound fell straight into the path of Will Morford who tapped home from six yards and turned the game on its head.\r\n\r\nGloucester were all of a sudden looking dangerous as substitute Scott Wilson shows good work rate down the right hand site to chase a ball down and get a cross in that nearly resulted in a quick second for City.\r\n\r\nMike Green was called upon to make a great save in the 63rd to deny Dennis when clean through on goal, then Matt Coupe threw himself into a challenge to block Turner’s attempt at turning the rebound towards goal.\r\n\r\nGloucester went straight up the other end to make the score 2-2  to shock the home fans.\r\n\r\nWilson showed great work rate and pace again rampaging down the right hand side and pulling back for Edwards to slot home neatly.\r\n\r\nThe game showed signs of quieting down for the next 15 minutes but exploded into life again with ten minutes remaining.\r\n\r\nGloucester nearly stole the win with Mullings seeing his goal bound effort blocked and then Harris having a header go just wide from the resulting corner.\r\n\r\nThat was City’s last chance though as the closing moments all belong to Stockport as they attempted to take all 3 points.\r\n\r\nTurner blazed wide in the 89th minute when clean through and then moments later a great ball from Kyle Jacobs was met by the head of Kristian Dennis but was tipped over the bar fantastically by Green.\r\n\r\nGloucester gritted their teeth right until the end and deserved the hard earned point after a spirited second half display.\r\n\r\nStockport County:  I.
