North Ferriby United 3 – 1 Gloucester City\r\n\r\nThree first half goals condemned Gloucester City to an opening day defeat against Skrill North newcomers North Ferriby United.\r\n\r\nThe Humberside outfit had made the perfect start with Danny Clarke smashing home, before Scott Wilson restored parity after 10 minutes for the Tigers.\r\n\r\nHowever, Nathan Jarman’s chance effort and Danny Hone’s towering header placed the Villagers back into the lead which they held with consummate ease for the rest of the game.\r\n\r\nIn the shadow of the Humber Bridge, the Villagers made the best possible start to their debut Conference match after ex-Chester man Jarman’s shot rebounded off goalkeeper Mike Green into the path of Clarke who knocked it home.\r\n\r\nCity replied almost immediately with new signings Matt Groves and Wilson combining for the latter to poke home from close range.\r\n\r\nHowever the Humberside outfit responded with a second after a defensive mix-up found Nathan Jarman at the back post who calmly finished.\r\n\r\nThe lethal Jarman continued his assault on the City goal and came close after swivelling on a sixpence to lash wide.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers then had a glorious opportunity after Darren Edwards had sprung the offside trap he crossed to Tom Webb who’s shot was heroically blocked by Nathan Peat.\r\n\r\nA third came for the promoted side just before half-time with Hone rising highest from a corner.\r\n\r\nThe second half turned into a much more attritional affair with either side not taking control.\r\n\r\nThe first effort came to the Villagers but only the outstretched arm of Green, making his 100th appearance for the club, denied Clarke from range.\r\n\r\nIt was City’s turn on the hour with Groves’ effort deflecting inches from the post, from the resulting corner Darren Mullings couldn’t finish.\r\n\r\nThe game seemed the fade after with little invention, but Jarman and Peat peppered Green’s goal late.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers start to the season continues on Tuesday against rivals Worcester City\r\n\r\nNorth Ferriby United: A.
