A resilient Longlevens side withstood a barrage on their goal to claim a 1-0 pre-season victory over Gloucester City.\r\n\r\nThe only goal of the game came from Longlevens debutant Michael White following a decent save from City trialist ‘keeper Rhys Lovit and it was enough to snatch the victory for the home side.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers started very brightly and nearly took the lead in the fifth minute. Obi Anoruo played in Harry Churchley behind the Levens defence, but his 1-on-1 effort was well saved.\r\n\r\nCity were pressing well in the early stages of the first half. Harry White swung a cross towards the back post where it was met with a volley from Ross Staley, but the ‘keeper got down well to block the goal-bound effort.\r\n\r\nPressure continued from City and all their play came through Ross Staley. A lovely give and go saw the live wire winger collect the ball in the box and loft a beautiful deft chip over the onrushing goalkeeper but the ball was hooked away to safety.\r\n\r\nLonglevens had their first chance of note mid-way through the half, as a ball from the flank was headed goal wards but pushed away well by Lovit.\r\n\r\nThe Hellenic Premier side were sitting deep and inviting more and more pressure. A tame free kick from Harry White was blocked by the wall, with Staley following in to drive a powerful effort just wide of the goal.\r\n\r\nWith the game nearing half-time, Mike Symons rattled a thunderous strike against the crossbar from range following good work to make space and get the ball onto his right foot.\r\n\r\nCity came out for the second half with the same intent they did against Fairford at the weekend. A free kick from Sam Hicks from 20 yards narrowly missed the target.\r\n\r\nThe hosts took the lead 20 minutes into the second period, through Michael White. A decent strike from range was well saved but White was on hand to tap in from close range.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers were nearly straight back in the match through trialist Ben Brooks. The striker rounded the ‘keeper but his deflected effort was cleared off the line by Longlevens.\r\n\r\nCity had one in the back of the net through a superb looping volley from Joe Parker, but his strike was ruled out for offside.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nGloucester City: Lovit, Green, Haswell, Hamilton, Avery, Churchley, Richards, White, Staley, Anoruo, Symons\r\n\r\nSubs: Brooks, Connolly, Parker, Williams, Greenwood, Modest, Miller, Hicks
