Gloucester City slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of an in-form Barrow side at a chilly Whaddon Road, a win that extends Barrow’s unbeaten run to 11 games.\r\n\r\nCity manager Dave Mehew opted to start with new loan signing Stuart Moore in between the sticks ahead of Mike Green, who dropped to the bench. Returning loanees Connor Waldon and Jordan Goddard also started, with fan’s favourite Adam Mann making his second debut for the club.\r\n\r\nBarrow pressured the Gloucester goal right from kick-off, winning a trio of successive corners that were confidently dealt with by the City defence.\r\n\r\nGloucester took the lead in the 22nd minute after some good work from Bristol Rovers loan-signing Jordan Goddard down the left flank. Goddard managed to get the ball out from under his feet to whip the cross into Charlie Griffin at the back post, who scored with a pinpoint header on his home debut.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers’ lead lasted less than 2 minutes. City goalkeeper Stuart Moore came to punch clear a looping cross but failed to meet it with any conviction and the ball fell kindly to Sam Sheridan who rifled into the top corner from close range.\r\n\r\nOn-loan Moore was determined to make up for his error. Nick Rushton did excellently to get past 3 City players into the box but Moore made a fantastic stop when it looked certain to be 2-1 to the Bluebirds.\r\n\r\nShortly after the restart Gloucester thought they had the ball in the back of the net after good link-up play from Goddard and Griffin, but Griffin’s header was expertly cleared off the line by Richard Davies.\r\n\r\nThis acted as a wake-up call for Barrow, as they quickly pressed City looking for the second goal. Some good passing football down the centre by Barrow and the ball was slipped through to Nick Rushton who kept his nerve to chip the ball over the on-rushing Moore, in the 69th minute.\r\n\r\nGloucester were now defending for their lives, as a quick counter attack nearly produced another scoring opportunity for Barrow but it was put behind by City skipper Matt Coupe.\r\n\r\nOnce again, Rushton found himself through on goal in the 84th minute, only to be denied by a fantastic stop by Moore. However, from the resulting corner Danny O’Donnell rose highest to head home for Barrow to make the score 3-1 to Barrow, which is how it stayed until the final whistle.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nGloucester City: S.
