Jack Harris’ towering header nine minutes from time saved Gloucester City a point against relegation threatened Workington.\r\n\r\nIt was a frustrating evening for Tim Harris’ men who enjoyed the lionshare of possession and opportunities throughout against opposition who needed the three points in their battle for survival.\r\n\r\nWorkington had silenced Whaddon Road heading into half-time after Matt Coupe had felled Josef Jackson in the penalty area; the Reds striker slotted home the spot-kick with aplomb.\r\n\r\nGloucester had dominated the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead with Harris falling victim to the offside flag after a storming header nestled into the back of the net.\r\n\r\nJake Gosling terrorised the Cumbrians all game and was hard done by not to find himself on the scoresheet with a bevy of chances going begging.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers looked to impose themselves early on the Skrill North’s bottom side and were almost rewarded but Joe Parker couldn’t connect with Nat Jarvis’ cross after 28 seconds.\r\n\r\nHowever, the Cumbrians almost shocked the home side early but Scott Allison lost his composure and shot wide whilst free behind the Tigers defence.\r\n\r\nThe returning Lewis Hogg peppered the Workington area with a teasing free-kick that saw Jack Harris rise highest to play in Parker who rifled straight at Danijel Nizic in goal.\r\n\r\nThe Australian Under-20 goalkeeper was forced into action shortly after with Jake Gosling unleashing a superb effort that ricocheted away.\r\n\r\nCity were celebrating on 23 minutes with Jack Harris heading home a Billy Jones free-kick, only to be disallowed by the assistant referee much to the chagrin of the Tigers centre-back and the home support.\r\n\r\nThe sustained pressure from Tim Harris’ men continued but Gosling and Jarvis couldn’t conjure a meaningful effort after setting themselves up for two decent efforts.\r\n\r\nJarvis and Gosling linked up again with the striker playing a sumptuous throughball but the Exeter City loanee bit of more than he could chew as he shot over the bar whilst off balance.\r\n\r\nWorkington stunned Whaddon Road just before the break after Jackson was brought down by City skipper Matt Coupe in the penalty area and duly slotted home the spot-kick thoroughly against the run of play.\r\n\r\nMarcus Giglio, Gosling and Jones all conjured chances heading into the half-time break, Jones with the best but he couldn’t tame his attempt, as Gloucester went into the second period behind.\r\n\r\nSubstitute Adam Mann looked for an immediate impact but a sensational block from Lee Andrews denied the piledriver effort.\r\n\r\nJoe Parker, who was involved in a tough battle against Guinea-Bissau international defender Bruno Fernandes, found the better of the 35-year-old with a 40 yard run that tested Nizic in goal.\r\n\r\nIt was then Mike Green’s time to shine with a stunning stop parrying away Jackson’s effort.\r\n\r\nThe returning Tom Webb, who motored constantly in midfield, found space on the right and fizzed across a ball to Mann that the former Shortwood United player couldn’t convert.\r\n\r\nThe impressive Gosling peppered the Cumbrian’s goal with two teasing efforts that had Workington troubled.\r\n\r\nOn 81 minutes, relief for the Tigers; the Jones-Harris combination worked perfectly again as Nizic missed the ball for the Tigers defender who bury home the header for a deserved equaliser.\r\n\r\nCity could’ve nicked the win late on, firstly Mann headed over the bar from six yards after Gosling had blasted the ball into the box.\r\n\r\nThen, Gosling went alone with a sublime dipping half-volley that just dipped too late as it flew just over the crossbar and the Tigers had to settle for a solitary point.\r\n\r\nGloucester City: M.
