Gloucester City recorded a routine victory over Hellenic Division One West Fairford Town, as they ran out 2-0 winners with a classy performance.\r\n\r\nTwo second half goals from live wire winger Ross Staley were enough to see off Fairford, who gave a good account of themselves against higher placed opposition.\r\n\r\nOn a hardening surface, the travelling Gloucester City fans were treated to some slick passing football from their side, which resulted in new signing Obi Anoruo striking the bar from close range.\r\n\r\nHarry White, in his second season with the Tigers, looked to break the deadlock just before the half hour, but his shot from range caught a bobble and went high and wide.\r\n\r\nDuring the half time break manager Tim Harris introduced several youth team players into the fray, as well as experienced players in Marc Richards and Mike Symons, who had an immediate impact.\r\n\r\nCity took the lead just after the break through Ross Staley after Mike Symons played a lovely ball around the corner of the defence for Staley to fire into the roof of the net at the near post.\r\n\r\nThe Tigers were well and truly in the ascendancy and nearly doubled their advantage immediately after as Marc Richards looping header cannoned off the post and away.\r\n\r\nHalf an hour into the second half and the Tigers finally had the second goal their performance deserved, again through Ross Staley.\r\n\r\nFrom an almost carbon copy of the first goal, Mike Symons slotted a ball through to Ross Staley who beat the offside trap and slotted the ball in at the near post.\r\n\r\nMike Symons was hungry for a debut goal and he nearly had it, but for a missed header from 6 yards following a teasing ball from Liam Wright.\r\n\r\nThe travelling Tigers fans thought that Symons had bagged on his return to a Tigers shirt, but the powerful striker’s tap in from 3 yards was debatably ruled out for offside.\r\n\r\nAs the game was petering out City nearly had another, as the returning George Miller fired a low shot straight into the hands of Joe Snell in the Fairford goal.\r\n\r\nFairford Town: Mitchell, Cordery, Hall, Lever, Townsend, Thomson, Brown, Jennings, Smith, Rudd, Milhench\r\n\r\nSubs: Snell, Boucher, Ballard, Hill, Startford\r\n\r\nGloucester City: Singh, Green, Greenwood, Williams, Avery, Miller, Connolly, Modest, Anoruo, White, Parker\r\n\r\nSubs: Richards, Symons, Hicks, Thompson, Staley, Haswell, Churchley, Wright\r\n\r\nGoals: Staley (2)\r\n\r\nReferee: Phil Staynings
