Lewis Hogg’s superb effort after half an hour secured Gloucester City a draw in a highly competitive final pre-season friendly against Bishops Cleeve.\r\n\r\nA mix-and-match starting eleven for the Tigers had come undone early with defender Sam Rawlings deflecting a cross into the back of the net.\r\n\r\nHowever, the game finished level as both sides head into their league season on Saturday, with City travelling to Humberside to face North Ferriby United and Cleeve travelling to Bridgwater Town.\r\n\r\nThe Mitres started at a breezy pace and caught the Tigers’ makeshift defence sleeping after Joe Turley had sped around the back, smashed a ball into the area only to deflect off Rawlings into the back of the net.\r\n\r\nMikey Davis then tried his hand, after jinking past Darren Mullings his effort failed to trouble Mike Green.\r\n\r\nThe early onslaught kept on coming with Jacob Morgan unleashing an effort, only to be thwarted by Green again.\r\n\r\nCity started to feel their way into the contest with Scott Wilson lobbing goalkeeper Jamie Moore, only to see the ball fall just wide of the far post.\r\n\r\nThis was quickly followed by City trialist Kassim Suleman fluffing his lines in front of goal and smashed over from close range.\r\n\r\nThe pressure soon paid off with Hogg drilling home from 20 yards after a sensational ball from new signing Jamie Edge bewildered the Mitres defence; Hogg flicked it over and half volleyed into the net.\r\n\r\nThe open first half saw chances galore and Michael Jackson was unlucky to see his effort superbly stopped from Green, who is looking in brilliant form heading into the Skrill North campaign.\r\n\r\nThe second half began in a similar vein as Wilson shot wide after good work from Jack Harris from the back.\r\n\r\nSubstitute Darren Edwards was given a gilt-edged chance after Will Morford had burst down the left wing, he crossed to the striker who had a gaping goal but only the slightest of touches from Turley deflected it wide.\r\n\r\nThe following two corners saw magnificent defending from Matt Williams who deflected headers from Harris and Edwards both off the line; the Harris clearance was particularly spectacular.\r\n\r\nJosh Kennedy became the Cleeve defensive hero after Joe Parker’s effort from close range in the midst of a scramble in the six yard box.\r\n\r\nSubstitute goalkeeper Nathan Phillips was then called into action late on to save Turley’s lashed effort from inside the area.\r\n\r\nThe clock was running out but the Tigers had one final chance with Edwards seeing his effort cleared off the line, yet again, by Williams who kept the Mitres level for a third time.\r\n\r\nIt was an entertaining finish to the Tigers epic pre-season, now all eyes will head to Humberside as Mehew’s impressive squad will step into Skrill North action on Saturday.\r\n\r\nBishops Cleeve: J.
