Competition: Vanarama National League North

Location: St James’ Park

We’re right in the thick of the festive fixtures and at a time of Christmas spirit and good will the Tigers focus on a Boxing Day showdown with Brackley writes Ollie Williams.

The Form

City come into the game on the back of five losses on the spin including our last outing at home against AFC Fylde, falling to a 5-1 defeat. We’ve also scored just twice in our last five matches however now is the chance to put bad form behind us as the games come thick and fast. City last won on November 8th away at Alfreton Town.

Brackley’s last game came on Tuesday as they beat Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 at St James’ Park. They have won two of their last five games including a 1-0 loss to Blackpool. Goals are frequent with the Saints having failed to score in just two of their games this season.

Key Players

For City Sam Avery has continued his consistency and even added a goal to his tally last time out against AFC Fylde. One of our key performers at the heart of the defence, Avery will be looking to improve our defensive record having not kept a clean sheet in our last seven matches.

For Brackley Glenn Walker has put in some impressive performances as well as get on the score sheet against AFC Fylde in the FA Trophy. The former Hednesford midfielder scored a vital goal against Tamworth to keep the Saints in the National League North last season.

Head to Head

Our first meeting came in September 2007 in the Southern Premier at The New Lawn where Brackley won 1-3 in front of 306 supporters. Scott Griffin was on target for City. Gloucester got their first win against the Saints in January 2008 with a trio of goals from Jamie Reid, Alex Sykes and Lee Smith. The next season we took them on at the Corinium Stadium in Cirencester with Brackley winning 0-1 in December 2008. The reverse saw the Tigers run out 3-2 winners with goals from Mike Symons, Will Morford and Lee Smith. We last met in April in a goalless draw at Whaddon Road.

Team News

Chris Knowles remains on the side lines and is aiming for a return in the new year. Spencer Hamilton (hamstring) is doubtful as is Joe Hanks with a hip flex problem. Darren Mullings is awaiting a scan on a groin problem.
