Date: Saturday, 5th August 2015\r\n\r\nCompetition: Vanarama National League North\r\n\r\nKick-Off: 3pm\r\n\r\nLocation: Whaddon Road, Cheltenham\r\n\r\nFollowing two successive 1-0 victories over the Bank Holiday Weekend against AFC Telford United and Nuneaton Town, Gloucester City look to make it 3 wins on the bounce as they welcome last season’s league runners up AFC Fylde to Whaddon Road.\r\n\r\nA thunderbolt from Cheltenham Town loan winger James Bowen coupled with an inspired performance from the imperious Jasbir Singh helped City claim a well-deserved 3 points at Liberty Way to follow up a hard-earned home victory against Telford 2 days before.\r\n\r\nAFC Fylde finished runners up to champions Barrow in last season’s Conference North, in what was the Coasters first season in the 2nd tier of non-league football.\r\n\r\nThey were the surprise package for many fans last season and are looking to build on their tremendous showing last campaign, currently sitting 6th in the National League North table.\r\n\r\nThe Coasters come into the game at Whaddon Road having won 3 of their last 5 matches, against Bradford PA, Lowestoft and Curzon Ashton; although Fylde lost their last fixture to Stockport County, Tim Harris is under no illusions how tough the game will be.\r\n\r\nHarris said: “Let’s not get carried away. We know what this league’s about, they’re going to be another big test for us.\r\n\r\n“The resources and the quality they’ve got means they have something we don’t: the experience and the strength in depth. But we’ll have a look at where we are with injuries and so on and it should be a cracking game, we look forward to it.”\r\n\r\nThe opponents:\r\n\r\nAFC Fylde were known as Kirkham & Wesham F.C. until the end of the 2007–08 season.\r\n\r\nHaving spent most of its existence in the West Lancashire League, after winning the league title for seven out of eight seasons the club were accepted into North West Counties League Division Two in 2007.\r\n\r\nOn 11 May 2008, they won the FA Vase beating Lowestoft Town 2–1 in the final at Wembley Stadium in front of a total crowd of 19,537, with about 14,000 from Lowestoft and about 3,500 Kirkham & Wesham supporters\r\n\r\nIn 2012–13, the club managed to achieve a playoff position in their maiden season in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.\r\n\r\nThey lost out 3–1 on penalties to eventual playoff final winners Hednesford Town F.C. in the semi final, which ended 3–3 after extra time at Keys Park, Hednesford. The game was notable for a 60-yard goal scored from a free-kick by Coasters goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe.\r\n\r\nThe 2013–14 season was extremely successful for Fylde, as they won the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy, the Northern Premier League Challenge Cup, and gained promotion to the Conference North via the playoffs as they beat Ashton United on penalties.\r\n\r\nAhead of the 2015/16 season, long serving players Joe Booth and Michael Barnes moved on before pre-season started along with Michael Potts, Luke Denson and Dave Hankin also leaving the club.\r\n\r\nThe signings of centre-half Domonic Collins from Southport and striker Matty Hughes from Fleetwood show serious intentions for the club in the upcoming season as both players had played in higher divisions than the Conference North the previous season.\r\n\r\nSam Finley joined from TNS just days before the start of the league season, but The Coasters suffered defeat in their opening game away at Solihull, losing 3–0.\r\n\r\nTeam news: \r\n\r\nMarc Richards and Mike Green will both be available for selection for tomorrow’s game after they both recovered from knocks.\r\n\r\nAdam Connolly will miss the game with a hamstring injury.\r\n\r\nMike Symons has family commitments and will not be available, however George Miller will be available following his return from a lengthy spell on the side-lines and we are delighted to see him back.\r\n\r\nThere will be live and full match commentary on Severn Sport from 2:30pm, available via their iOS and Android apps or the TuneIN radio app for iOS, Android and SmartTV.
