Gloucester City Football Club would like to bring to attention the following statement from First Team manager Tim Harris.
“After careful consideration and many discussions, I have decided that this football club is certainly something worth fighting for.
“The last two weeks have been very difficult for me personally; wrestling with my heart and my head, as like all City fans frustration never seems far away.
“I have always tried to remain positive with the ground situation, the lack of commercial income from the business community. It’s fair to say recently, I have questioned my ability to help see this club return home.
“I have also tried to put things in perspective as when I eventually became Manager of Gloucester City from Merthyr Tydfil the club was in grave danger of relegation to the Southern League Midland division.
“The club has certainly come a long way from those days.
“The hard core of fans, the people that want to see this football club come back home have been nothing short of phenomenal in their support for the club, the players and myself.
“The squad we have now in place has so much potential; it’s young and hungry and for these players and you, the fans, this means I now need to show my commitment to continue this journey.
“We may lose some of our talented players but I will not stand in anyone’s way to progress to a higher level.
“May I urge you all, fans and businesses alike to support the club in any way you can because without your support from season tickets and sponsorship it will make the job even harder to keep this excellent squad together for the coming season.
“You really can make a difference by purchasing a season ticket and if I could suggest that everyone that does to just ask your employer or just one business to buy one season ticket.
“If we were to achieve this with everyone committing it would have an enormous boost to our income streams. I appreciate some people will always look at this in a negative way but if we want to continue developing what we have surely this is a really easy way everyone can help and will not be a huge cost to any business.
“As I have said before, the commitment of Eamonn McGurk must not be questioned as without his support we simply would not be playing at the level, that is the simple fact.
“It’s the timing of the ground, the return to the City that we eagerly await, do I believe the ground will be built?
“All I will say is the Council, Active Gloucestershire and many partners/people are eventually pulling together.
“I would be now disappointed if in 18 months we are not back playing Gloucester.
“You, like myself, may have heard this all before, though before you start throwing your opinions around just look at Worcester City, Rushden & Diamonds, Altrincham and many others they would probably all relish our situation right now.
“This football club is something I want to keep fighting for, I hope you all feel the same and keep encouraging others to do so.
“Have a good break see you in July where we have a really exciting pre-season programme that will be announced shortly.”
