Nigel Hughes has decided to step down from his position as Gloucester City Chairman, and head of the Management board, after five years in the roles from December 31st 2013.\r\n\r\nHughes has indicated he will not be walking away from the Tigers but will remain to be associated as a Director to support the new stadium build once the Planning Application has been approved in the next few months.\r\n\r\n“My workload has continued to grow as the company I work for looks to expand its operations worldwide; and as a consequence I have more responsibility which means longer hours and more travel,” Hughes notes.\r\n\r\n“In real terms this means I have less and less time available to dedicate to the Football Club, so with the new Management Board in place the club is now on a far better footing and can look forward positively to the future once we return to the City.”\r\n\r\n“I feel extremely proud and privileged to have been Chairman of this wonderful club.\r\n\r\n“Having originally joined the club as Executive Secretary some 8 or 9 years ago, I never imagined that I would eventually end up as Chairman!\r\n\r\n“There has never been a dull moment during my time with City; the difficulties we have faced over the years have been well documented, but despite all of the problems we have had to endure we have persevered and kept going, even achieving promotion in the face of such adversity.\r\n\r\n“There are so many people who have supported me and Gloucester City through hard times.\r\n\r\n“Without the significant financial support of Eamonn McGurk, and more recently Chris Gabb, the club would have struggled desperately to remain sustainable.\r\n\r\n“Alongside them I also thank other individuals and companies who have stepped up their financial contribution; for without their timely involvement I am adamant that we would not have survived.\r\n\r\n“In that same vein it would be remiss not to recognise and pay tribute to the wonderful commitment of our Supporters Trust.\r\n\r\n“They have contributed massively to the club over the past 10 years and many individuals have played their part to make a first class contribution.\r\n\r\n“They, along with a number of people who currently serve the Management Board, work tirelessly to keep the club going day to day.\r\n\r\n“Whoever is appointed to take over the role as Chairman will inherit an excellent football management team, in tandem with a thriving Youth Development set up and more importantly a Management Board, which is now making a big difference to how the Club is operating.”\r\n\r\nHughes’ successor as chairman will be announced in due time.
