Adam picks his Mann of the season

City’s homegrown young gun Adam Mann has been looking back on his first full season with the Tigers.

The former Severn Vale School pupil, who joined the first team last year, said taking on the top clubs in the league like Stalybridge, Hyde and Guiseley showed just how much the squad is improving.

With his players’ player of the season votes already cast (the first team vote for their two favourite players) Adam said he had a tough time picking the best performance of the season.

He said: “I feel the team in general have had a good season, Locky has shown his quality throughout the season and has gave us a play maker from either the wing or in the centre, Darren Mullings does the side to a game which goes unnoticed and it’s such a hard role to play in the middle of the park so he deserves credit for the job he does.

“Morf upfront has been superb. In defence Coupe and Hammo have been different class all season along with Greener (right back Mike Green) who never gives you a poor performance. Sammy Rawlings deserves a mention as he has came in this season and played outstanding and has looked comfortable in a number of positions, definitely has been the young player of the year for me.”

But he also reflected on the games where things didn’t go to plan, admitting his worst moment of the season was when City lost to Chelmsford in the FA Cup.

He said: “The worst moment of the season for me personally was the Chelmsford away game, I’ve literally clipped the ball as its gone for the equaliser but it wasn’t enough to stop it going in an that’s how close it was from being our game that day.  As a team I think our worst moment was Truro away on the Tuesday night (in the FA Trophy) coming back to make it 2-2 then conceeding last minute to send us out was heart breaking as again we had worked so hard like at Chelmsford. Equally our best moment as a team was our performance against Truro at home in the FA Cup when we won 7-2 where I thought we we’re different class that day.”

Adam said he could look back with fond memories at some of the great goals scored by Gloucester this season, singling out Matt Lock and Tom Webb’s FA Cup goals, Will Morford’s volley against Eastwood and Dave Bird’s wonder goal amongst his favourites.

He added: “Tyler Weir’s goal with his left foot (against Halifax) is one I remember as I was right in line with it when he struck it and Birdys volley not so long ago was a bit of class which was made to look easy, I can assure you it isn’t after a few of my attempts going row z!”

“My best moment of the season personally was our game against Stalybridge away when Davo scored the equaliser, thinking about the season has reminded me how good his goal was that day! It was a great feeling as we worked so hard to get something and those extra points become so important especially when you see how tight the league became at the end of the season.”
