9th December 2007 for the Gloucester City AFC Leukaemia CARE Christmas Fun Run
We know Gloucester City has had a few problems over the last month or but we must always remember that there are always people with real problems that go far beyond the staging of football matches.
That is why we are so pleased to once again be a part of the Leukaemia Care Christmas Fun Run in association with Severn Sound Money Mountain. The money raised from the day will go towards supporting the important work carried out by the charity, We make some money for the Club too as well as contributing to the Severn Sound Money Mountain which supports charities across Gloucestershire.
At the moment I'm just doing a bit of awareness promotion - we simply want you to know what we are doing so that you can book the date and start getting sponsorship for YOUR run.
And the big bonus for City fans is that we return to Meadow Park (or at least the car park) to begin and end the run. The run isn't arduous - a 5km route through the streets of Gloucester. It isn't a race (though some may like to get a good time in) as you will be dressed as Santa Claus. Santa suits will be provided. Run starts at 11am so there's no excuse about an early start either!
So big or small, fat or slim, in wheelchairs or on crutches, fit footballer or couch potato ....... everyone will be welcome to take part.
And if you don't want to run - make sure you sponsor someone who is and turn up to support them on the day.
Worcester City is doing a similar project on the same day - so it is also important for us that we match their efforts and hopefully raise as much if not more than they do.

Leukaemia CARE is a national Charity that provides care and support to patients, their families and carers during the difficult journey through the diagnosis and treatment of leukaemia, lymphoma or an allied blood disorder. Leukaemia CARE provides the only dedicated free 24 hour phone CARE Line for patients and their families that enables people to discuss their feelings, concerns and emotions at such a difficult period of time. In addition, Leukaemia CARE is heavily involved with patient advocacy and provides information, holidays, discretionary financial support and has a network of Volunteers throughout the United Kingdom to ensure that there is local support wherever a patient and their family live.
Leukaemia strikes any place, any time, any where. Children affected often hit the headlines but the majority of sufferers are older people and they range from famous footballers to a person living in your street.
It's a worthwhile cause and the title of what we are doing says it all - FUN run. Take part and enjoy it and at the same time make a contribution by getting well and truly sponsored.
