Today Gloucester City say our thanks and goodbye to Matt Yates as Derby County have recalled the City fan favourite from his loan.

After signing his first professional contract in May 2017, Matt Yates stepped up to the Derby County Under-23s squad on a permanent basis for the start of the 2017/18 campaign. A consistent starter throughout his scholarship, Yates has been on the books of the Derby County Academy since the age of nine and is the son of the club’s former defender Dean Yates. He joined Gloucester City on loan at the beginning of this season and his form for the Tigers saw us extend his loan until Christmas.

However, with Matt Yates firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite with stellar performances in the league and most notably in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round against Dorking Wanderers, his form has seen him recalled by his parent club.

The Club would like to extend our gratitude to Matt for his efforts for us and wish him the best in his future career.

City Manager Chris Todd is currently speaking to a number of Clubs about a replacement. We will update further upon confirmation of a signing.
