21 year old Matt Williams will captain the Gloucester City first team this season, after being given the armband by Tim Harris.\r\n\r\nWilliams has become a mainstay in the Tigers back line since joining from Bishop’s Cleeve in the summer of 2014 and made over 40 appearances last season.\r\n\r\nTalking to us on Thursday, Williams said “I was a little surprised when the gaffer told me to be honest!\r\n\r\n“Having said that though I am looking forward to it, it’s a big responsibility but I know what it takes having captained Bishop’s Cleeve before I came to Gloucester.”\r\n\r\nSpeaking on his decision to hand Williams the armband, Tim Harris said: “Matt has settled in really well after coming to us in the summer last year.\r\n\r\n“I think it’s testament to how mature he is for his age that he was virtually ever present for us last season, only missing games through injury.\r\n\r\n“Matt wears his heart on his sleeve for Gloucester City and I am sure that he can play a big part in years to come for this football club and I have no fears that he’ll relish the opportunity.”\r\n\r\nMeanwhile Tom Webb has been given the role of club captain for the coming season.
