A storming second half performance saw Gloucester City ease past Hinckley United.\n\nBut 3-0 score line didn’t flatter Hinckley who hit the woodwork three times through Aaron Cole and Jack Lane before a Darren Edwards penalty and a Will Morford brace gave City the win.\n\nIn a flat first half neither side could make much impact as the ball was lofted high, catching the brisk northerly wind. \n\nJack Harris had an early shot saved five minutes in as Hinckley struggled to impose themselves on the game. \n\nSteve Davies’ pace caused problems for the youthful Hinckley midfield, 19 minutes in he surged forward and shot over the bar. Minutes later Robert Peet saved a point blank effort from Mitch Harding.\n\nAn early substitution for Hinckley added pace in the form of Rory Coleman but still City dominated possession. Davies had another shot saved on 24 minutes.\n\nDanny Newton’s header from a Hinckley corner on 32 minutes flew past Jordan Tillson to be caught by keeper Mike Green.\n\nMatt Coupe was booked for a challenge on Jake Holt with five minutes of the half to play, with Hinckley fans insistent that the City keeper should’ve been shown a red.\n\nAfter a neat run from Davies came to nothing when no City player made it to the far post to meet the cross, before Lane fired a shot onto the inside of the post and back out again to give Gloucester a scare as the half ended goalless.\n\nThe long ball lumping of the first half continued in the second half. Tom Hamblin made way for Adam Mann and the City pack reshuffled.\n\nThe change worked and as City pressed forward Jack Harris was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded. Darren Edwards stepped up to the spot and banished his spot kick demons with a cool shot past Peet.\n\nBut Hinckley kept pressing, with Cole hitting the cross bar and Max Harrop shooting into the stand.\n\nOn 80 minutes Will Morford, on in place of Mitch Harding, collected the ball in his own half and glided past two Hinckley defenders, ran through to the edge of the box and slid the ball under Peet to double City’s lead.\n\nThen deep into injury time Edwards took advantage of some poor defending from Charlie Raglan to trap a loose ball, beat the advancing figure of Peet and pass to Morford, gifting his teammate his 50th goal for the club and sealing the win.\n\n\nHinckley United: R Peet, Declan Towers, B Richards-Everton (R Coleman 22) J Holt, C Raglan, T Sharpe, J Lane, M Harrop, A Wint, D Newton, A Cole.
