Braintree Town vs Gloucester City

Saturday 28th April 2018

National League South

Kick Off: 15:00

Amlin Stadium

The final league match of the season see’s the Tigers travel to promotion-chasing Braintree Town.

Although the pressure might be minimal for Marc Richards’ side, the same cannot be said for the hosts in what is simply a must-win game in their hunt for the play-offs.

City currently sit in 12th position in the table and with three points, plus a significantly worse goal difference separating them and Wealdstone, 12th is as a good as it will get on the final day of play.

Today’s hosts came out on top in the reverse meeting back in October, three second-half goals, including two from Phillip Roberts, cancelled out Karnell Chambers’ early strike, to claim all three points.

The Opposition

The stakes could not be higher for Bradley Quinton and his side, coming into the final day they currently occupy the final play-off position, a single point ahead of St Albans.

They missed a golden chance to confirm their place-off status last Tuesday night, where they were unable to break down a stubborn Oxford City, in a goalless draw at the Amlin.

The irons will be well aware that any slip-ups today could be so very costly.

Anything but a victory would hand St Albans the opportunity to pounce, they face a tough trip to Bath City today.

But the hosts will be feeling confident after hitting some good form in the run-in.

Just one defeat in nine (which was to St Albans) has seen them gate-crash the top seven in recent weeks.

Their biggest source of goals this season has been in the form of midfielder Billy Crook, the 27-year-old has found the net 10 times this campaign.
