Gloucester City AFC would like to announce that manager Marc Richards has left the Club by mutual consent.

After taking the helm last December from his predecessor, Marc guided City out of the relegation zone and almost into a play-off push, with City’s form over February and March earning Richards a Manager of the Month award in February. City secured National League South status and finished the season mid table. He will be taking Assistant Manager Will Morford and performance analyst Luke Brick with him to the Bulls.

Marc Richards had this to say,

“It’s with a heavy heart that I leave Gloucester City. I have been involved with Gloucester City on and off for over 11 years as a player, player-coach, assistant manager and more recently as manager. The progress that has been made throughout the Club and on the Stadium in these past 10 months has been extremely encouraging. However, I have an opportunity I have felt too good to pass up.

I would like to thank all the volunteers at the Club, the management board and the supporters for their faith in me this year and most importantly the players who have given their all for me during my time at the club. I wish them and Gloucester City Football Club all the best for the future and I hope Gloucester are back in the city soon”.

Rod Jenner added,

“We are of course very sad to see Marc, Will and Luke leave the Club, however, Marc feels that it is time to move to pastures new. I would like to thank him and Will for the job that they have done these past 10 months. I’d like to especially thank Will for stepping up and taking charge of the First Team for those few games in December last year. On behalf of the Directors, Management Board, and all those involved with the club, I want to wish them all the best for the future.

My role as Chairman means I must protect the Club’s best interests, so when Marc informed us of his intention to discuss this new opportunity, the management board and I set about contingency plans in case this scenario happened. Our proactivity has been justified and we’ve already identified a number of candidates who we will be interviewing soon.”

Until a new manager is appointed, Tom Webb and Mike Green will take charge of the first team, with their first game in charge against Dorking Wanderers at the Jubilee Stadium.
