caught up with new manager Marc Richards on the eve of his first game in charge of the First team ahead of the away trip to Truro City.

Hi Marc and thanks for talking to us ahead of the game. What was it that influenced your decision to take on the Manager’s Job?

“Being the manager of Gloucester City is something I’ve always wanted to do since my first association with the club as a player back in 2007 as I was already well into my development as a coach at this point. It was something I spoke to Tim about on many occasions when we were discussing the long term plan for GCAFC and it’s always been an aspiration of mine to manage at this level.”

What was the atmosphere like when you walked into the dressing room and then took training for the first time as Manager? What were the reactions of the players?

“For as long as I’ve been at Gloucester or known the squads at Gloucester the atmosphere has never been a problem. This group of players are no different. They’re an extremely tight group and the atmosphere so far in training has been excellent, however, I am still getting used to some of the lads calling me ‘gaffer’!”

So can we expect to see a drastic change in terms of style of play over the coming months or will it be building on the groundwork laid so far?

“I’ll definitely be building on what we’ve developed over the last few years. The exciting thing with this group of players is that the majority are very young and they are only going to get better, so if we can keep them together I am hoping we will continue to improve.”

What are your feelings surrounding the trip away to Truro? They are currently 7th but are on a run of two draws and two losses, do you think this could be the turning in our fortunes?

“It’s an extremely tough away fixture. Truro are a very good side and they are having a great season. I’m confident that if we execute our game plan effectively we have a very good chance of causing an upset and coming away with the 3 points.”

Thanks Marc and we want to wish you and the squad the best of luck ahead of the match.

Gloucester City play Truro City at Treyew Road today, Kick off, 3pm.
