GLOUCESTER CITY FC
NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL!
BLADE SSANGYONG ROARS IN TO HELP TIGERS
Gloucester City FC – The Tigers – has
received a big boost this week with a new sponsor.
The new name and logo on the familiar black and yellow strip is Korean car company, SsangYong and the deal has been concluded with Blade SsangYong in Westgate Street, Gloucester.
Jerry Martin, operations director for the Blade Group which has its head office in Gloucester, said: “SsangYong is our newest franchise and inline with the brand’s UK relaunch, we want to boost awareness in the area. The Tigers are rooted in the local community and so is the Blade Group, so it’s an ideal fit for us.”
Blade SsangYong is one of six car franchises held by the Blade Group, including VW and Audi. It also has seven motorcycle dealerships in Abingdon, Reading, Oxford, Cheltenham and Swindon.
Gloucester City players including new signings Lee Marshall and Luke Ballinger, will now carry the SsangYong logo and brand name prominently on their shirts. The sponsorship win provides a welcome lift for the club, which was forced to abandon its Meadow Park playing ground last year after extensive and repeated flooding. Blade SsangYong’s support will help in the search for a new home ground. The team plays in the British Gas Business (Southern) Football League Premier Division.
Tigers’ chairman Dave Phillips said: “we are pleased to welcome SsangYong as our major sponsor, particularly at this difficult time as we look to move to a new ground. The supporters, officials and players of this club all share a burning desire to bring success to this club, and to build on the exceptional season we have just completed. We see SsangYong as a perfect partner to help us achieve that aim. The club has been through some difficult times following the floods, but we are delighted to have secured this major deal, both in terms of the significant financial backing it gives us, but as another demonstration of faith in the future of top-class football for the City.”
