Gloucester City wing back Lewis Hall says that he is relishing the new role he has found himself given in the team’s system this season, with Hall enjoying the defensive aspect of the role.\r\n\r\nUtilised more as a left winger last season where he was the Tigers joint top goalscorer, Hall has replaced Billy Jones at left back in a defence that has been the origin of a lot of City’s build-up play this season.\r\n\r\n”At the moment with the way we are playing this year my preferred role is at left back” Hall said.\r\n\r\n”The system we are playing allows me to get forward a lot more and not only that I’m actually enjoying the defensive side of things more than I was last year as I’m concentrating on it more.\r\n\r\n”I played a little bit there when I was with Bristol City but I was mainly further up on the wing, so it is quite new to me in some ways but I’ve taken to it head-on and I’m enjoying it.”\r\n\r\nHall has found himself competing with Bristol Rovers loanee Danny Greenslade for his spot at left back, which was taken by Greenslade when Hall was out injured.\r\n\r\nHowever, Hall says that being out of the starting XI doesn’t have an adverse affect on his game.\r\n\r\n”Competition in the squad is always good” Hall said. “Not only does it help and force me to up my game and improve as a player but as a team it keeps us all tighter, more focused and working harder.\r\n\r\n”Having strength in depth isn’t necessarily a bad thing I think.”\r\n\r\nHall suffered an ankle injury in the Tigers loss to Harrogate Town earlier in the season on their artificial pitch, and he says that despite it being fully healed he is still taking measures to prevent a similar injury happening again.\r\n\r\n”The ankle is much better now thankfully and I’m 100% fit” said Hall. “At the moment I’m keeping a strap on it just to keep it safe especially with training on the 3G pitches at Hartpury.\r\n\r\n”Obviously I don’t want to go twisting my ankle or anything like that so it’s just a precaution but otherwise it’s completely fine now.”\r\n\r\nHaving missed nearly six weeks out with the injury, Hall is hoping to find his form again that he showed not just earlier in this season, but also last season when he finished joint top goalscorer with Joe Parker.\r\n\r\n”Last season I managed to get a few goals under my belt” he said. “Just before I got injured this year I was getting a few more shots off each game to try and find that form again.\r\n\r\n”I ┬ádo feel I need to get that side back into my game this season now I’m back from injury. I think once I get one then the floodgates will open so hopefully the first one will come quite soon!\r\n\r\n”With the way we are playing this year I feel confident of beating a right winger when I’m in possession because I know someone will be there covering me, so if I can beat him and get a shot away there’s every chance of me getting on the scoresheet.”
